I'm a
Finnish military history enthusiast and I have always been interested
in WW II military history as well as miniature scale modelling. These
hobbies of mine were the basis for the decision to create detailed
pages
on Finland at war. The Winter War is known all around the world but the
details are usually obscure if one doesn't understand the Finnish
language, and not many do. The Continuation War is less known and the
Lapland War is
almost unknown.
A little about the FMP... My idea is
to provide "missing details" in my far from perfect English. The
contents concentrate on the Finnish
Defence Forces (FDF) in WW II but German troops in Finland
during the war are handled too. In addition to the "Main Index" page
there
are two "Contents" pages for the Finnish
Defence Forces and for the German Forces in Finland during the
WW II. I've also included a link to the official multilingual Finnish Defence Forces site for
those who are also interested in modern Finnish military.
My e-mail
address is: [email protected]I've retained original Finnish unit names and their abbreviations in addition to English translations. The latter ones may sometimes differ from the"official translations seen elsewhere but I've tried to be literally as close as possible to the original Finnish names. German unit names, ranks and part of the titles are without translation. I hope all military enthusiasts can find useful and interesting information from these apolitical military history pages. I'm not going to argue with people who don't believe in true historical facts! Everything shown is based on original public Finnish sources mentioned on each page. The complete list of the used sources is on the "Sources" page. The latest new, updated and renewed pages are seen on the "What's New" page. Unless otherwise mentioned, most of the photographs are scanned from the originals or legal copies of pre-war and wartime shots some of which are very rare and previously unpublished! Visitors should remember that all material published on these pages is copyrighted. If you want to "borrow" something I suggest asking my permission first. I'm very pleased with my link page! New links will be added especially if they are somehow related to Finland in WW II. Visit also the official "Virtual Finland" site to learn more about Finland! These pages contain lots of interesting information in many languages. You can find the link from the Links page. I'd like to thank Mr. Olli Wikberg, Layla (from N.Y.C.) Mikko (=Eisenfaust=) and Mrs. T. Laine for supporting me with the always invaluable photos and information, Mr. Mikko Härmeinen for accurate biographical data (the best in Finland) and other information provided for my disposal, Mr. Juha Tompuri and Mr. Jarkko Vihavainen for showing interesting details and good "co-operation" in discussion forums and last but not least Mr. Lauri Karvonen for all the comments and borrowed books and magazines. People who have gave me specified information or individual photos are thanked on the appropriate page. Thank you all very much! Special thanks also to numerous people who have visited Finnish Military Page and contacted me during the years in need of information or offered missing pieces of information for me. So, if you have any suggestions, questions and/or corrections (my English is, like I already said, far from perfect), please don't hesitate to contact me in English, or in Finnish if you are able! Please, use as specific topic as possible to help separating spam from the matter-of-fact mail. . For finding additional information I recommend the following apolitical discussion forums:
All of the my pages are not yet complete and some of them are not available at the moment. I apology for that. I'll add new pages and photos as soon as I have enough time to prepare these, so be patient and visit the Finnish Military Page again! . . Thank
you for visiting!
