IPE Missed over the North Sea in very bad weather
during transit flight from Perth (England) to
Stavanger (Norway). Plane was never found.
WO Gottschalk was a very experienced pilot who
had also civilian career as commercial pilot. He
was the oldest Finnish pilot killed during the
Winter War (40 years old).

fighters at Värtsilä.

(Karelian Isthmus). Lt. Tevä was probably
killed in MG fire from R-5 planes.
25.2.1940 GL-258 ? (WIA) LLv.26 Damaged in aerial combat and forced landed
to a forest at Ristseppälä (Karelian Isthmus).
25.2.1940 GL-251 No injuries. LLv.26 Forced landed on Soviet side after engine
failure. Pilot came walking back to Finnish side.
26.2.1940 FR-85 - LLv.24 Shot to fire by Soviet fighters. Plane burned.
26.2.1940 BL-119 No injuries. LLv.44 Shot down by Soviet fighter. Forced landing was
succesful.
27.2.1940 FA-12 Lt.(R) E. Malmivuo (KIA) LLv.26 Shot down by fighters near Utti airbase.
29.2.1940 GL-269 Cpl(R) P. Kosola (KIA) LLv.26 Shot to fire at Ruokolahti during take off
by Soviet fighters. Pilot bailed out at low level
but parachute didn't open on time.
29.2.1940 GL-268 M.Sgt V. Lilja (WIA) LLv.26 Shot to fire at Ruokolahti during take off
by Soviet fighters. Pilot bailed out but was
injured by serious burns.
29.2.1940 GL-263 M.Sgt J. Tolkki (IIA) LLv.26 Shot to fire at Ruokolahti during take off
by Soviet fighters. Plane crashed but pilot
survived with only minor injuries.
29.2.1940 GL-262 Lt. E. Halme (KIA) LLv.14 Shot down at Ruokolahti in aerial combat by
Soviet fighters. Lt. Halme was killed by a MG
fire to his head.
29.2.1940 GL-259 Lt. C. Kristensen (KIA) LLv.26 Danish volunteer pilot was shot down at
Ruokolahti by Soviet fighters.
29.2.1940 GL-261 Lt. P. Christensen (KIA) LLv.26 Shot to fire at Ruokolahti during take off

bailed out but was injured by burns.

MG counter fire from enemy bombers hit to
pilot after which plane crashed. WO Heiskala
was one of the most experienced pilots of FAF.
5.3.1940 FR-76 ? (WIA) LLv.24 After damaging in aerial combat forced landed
on no-mans-land at Säkkijärvi. Pilot was
wounded. Finnish troops destroyed the plane.

Plane probably stalled at low speed because of
tight formation with another plane.
10.3.1940 GL-279 Lt. T. Ollikainen (KIA) LLv.14 Crashed to trees during aerial combat at Torajärvi
West from Korpilahti (Karelian Isthmus).
11.3.1940 S-5 / ? T Lt.(Eng.) Å. Hildinger (+) F 19 Plane crashed during a test flight and destroyed
at Kemi.
11.3.1940 FA-22 S.Sgt D. Manzocchi (WIA, +) LLv.26 Italian volunteer pilot forced landed on the frozen
lake Ikola after wounding in aerial combat. During
landing plane turned upside down due to flush.
Plane was repaired later.
11.3.1940 BL-140 P Lt.(R). E. Ahmo
