New 1st Coastal Division was formed on 13.7.1944 for the coastal defense of Bay of Viborg. It was composed around Coastal Regiment 2 (former Coastal Artillery Regiment 2) and a newly formed Coastal Artillery Regiment 22 of Eastern Gulf of Finland Coastal Brigade. Division Staff and additional units came from the Lake Onega Coastal Brigade which was moving away from East Karelia.

Division was on the front between 16.7. - 23.9.1944 and it was operationally subordinated to V Army Corps. On 8.8.1944 division had two defensive sectors:

- Itälohko (East Sector) (Col. N. Kesämaa)
----- III Linnakkeisto (III Lsto) (III Coastal Artillery Battalion)
----- IV Linnakkeisto (IV Lsto) (IV Coastal Artillery Battalion)

- Länsilohko (West Sector) (Lt.Col. T. Reponen)
----- I Linnakkeisto (I Lsto) (I Coastal Artillery Battalion)
----- II Linnakkeisto (II Lsto) (II Coastal Artillery Battalion)

Between 25. - 30.9.1944 division was responsible of the defense of Porkkala area which was hired for Soviet Union as a naval base according to peace terms. Division was suspended on 27.11.1944 when Finnish Army was de-mobilized.
