Oh this game brings back so many memories it almost hurts.   The nostalgia is so thick you could cut it with a knife.  This was an outsanding game and if it didn't out-do itself with later sequels it would have got a 5 out of 5 easily.  But some of those others raised the bar they were so good.  Anyhow, the main story to it is that you have been chosen to stop the evil ganon who has kidnapped the princess Zelda.  You actually start off with nothing and have to enter a nearby cave for your wooden sword.  Given to you by a nice old man.  Anyway, you continue your adventure through incredibly challenging levels and even out in the field it is difficult.

I must say that this is probably the hardest Zelda game of them all.  Zelda 2 was pretty hard but this is no cake walk.  Keys were scarce and enemies were difficult.  You (earlier than most other Zelda games) get out of the baddies-have-two-hits-and-are-stupid stage real quickly.  They get pretty smart and eventually you see this one breed of bad guy (red ones and blue ones; for some reason all baddies come in red and blue) that is kinda like a cenatuor.  It has a LOT of HP and hit for ALOT!!!   When you see these kinda guys you just have to go in swinging and movement is extremely important.  Yeah... even though it doesn't look like it with the controls and graphics but movement is a very important part of the game.  It's very sensitive and you really have to know what you are doing.  But let me tell you... once you've beaten it your in for a surprise.                                                                    You get to beat it again!!!  Except this                                                                   time ALL of thee levels are different.
You see,  all of the levels are themed.  And the map of the level is shaped in that theme.  Like a skull or bird or something.  In the second time around the levels are the first letter of that theme.  Like S and B, respectively.  And everything is exponentially harder.  So be prepared.
Now as far as graphics go well look for yourself.  They are actually pretty good for a NES game of that length.  It was also a realatively early one too.  I am presonally perfectly fine with it.  I try very very hard not to let graphics influence my opinion on a game and they don't.  But for a review like this I have to at least mention it.  They aren't spectacular.  Now the music.  You've never hear 8 bit music sound so sweet.  This game has my honest opinion of a place in music history.  It sort of set the standard for early gaming music.  Nowadays you practically have an orcheastra playing for you but back then they didn't have that luxery.  That is the reason Video game music is my favourate genre of music.  I mean, country is ok, alternative is neat, pop is YUK!  But video game music is the best.  And my opinion why is becuase they have a history of making the best out of what they have.  I mean, the zelda overworld ROX but is played with like two sounds!! Different pitches of beeps and a "CH" sound.  Y'know part of the percussion.  But they make it sound GOOD.  And they still do today.  It's a legacy that video game music is extrememly complete.  They use it all.  Movie music is good but video games put soul in the music.

Anyway,  this is a really good game that everyone should try just to experience old-school.  But let me challenge you.  I beat the game without much trouble, but I consider myself an expert.  If you are looking for a good hard game this is it.  Especially the second time through.  Anyway, thanx for readin and don't forget to sign my guestbook so you can flame me for this ;-)
