Make a wish

Part Three † Concequences

-This is dull, Marilyn said when they were walking among hundreds of other people in the market place.
-Yeah, well, we don't have any money, Tinker reminded. -You must be born under lucky stars to get a breakfast like that. In the end it could be only meal we're going to get today.
Marilyn breathed with a dramatic sound. -I do love to travel low budget but this isn't really what I meant.
Tinker didn't bother to comment but just kept walking. She had to think. Not that she was wiser of those two but she had a gift to keep her mind focused a little - well, a lot - longer than her dear friend. And they were in pretty much what we would say deep shit. Their room had been paid only two days advanced, they wanted to leave room for surprises. But this wasn't a surprise they were looking for. They did have some money but Tinker thought that it was best to keep that information to herself. Marilyn would end up using to some weird thing in order to get more money. And in the end they would be totally broke. What would they do? Tinker was deep in - thoughts - when Marilyn stopped her.
-Look, there's lottery! she joyed. Yeah, just what Tinker was waiting for.
-We don't have any money, Tinker repeated.
-It doesn't matter, Marilyn said. -It's free. And look, we could win a trip to India.
-Yeah. Like we'd ever go there without money.
-It's a lot cheaper down there, Marilyn judged and ran to the stall leaving Tinker no other chance than follow her.
Tinker had to admire Marilyn's positive attitude. Most of the times it was really refreshing but right then... Well, their flight would leave in six days and they had nothing to do until that. It had been Tinker's idea to leave to holiday. But still.
Marilyn was exited because of all the possible things they could win. Trip, house for month, car, tickets to concerts, microwave oven, CD player...
-Now look at that! Marilyn yelled. -I could take each one of these.
-You can only have one, woman gave out the awards. Marilyn looked at her like she was kidding and then draw one die. She held it, whispered "I wish..." making Tinker flinch and then opened it.
-What? No win? No win?!? What kind of lottery is this?
Marilyn turned to see Tinker with a huge disappointment on her face. Tinker had no other chance than to feel sorry for her. She was like a child who had got an Easter egg that had no surprise in it.
-Only every tenth lot wins, woman said calmly. -It's not charity.
-Well, even if it's not, we sure are worth it.
Within 30 seconds Marilyn had explained everything that happened to them after they'd arrived to Dublin. Though Tinker wondered if woman understood anything because when Marilyn got exited she had a habit to speak fast. Really fast.
-Now can I draw another? (Ncaydranother? was how it sounded. And yes, even Irish people had troubles understanding her sometimes.)
-Sorry. Only one for person.
Marilyn was astonished of such a cold heart.
-But your friend still has a chance, woman said nodding to Tinker.
-Yea! Marilyn said and pulled Tinker closed to the stall. -Now choose carefully. You have to win something for us or else our whole holiday will be ruined.
Tinker reached for the lots. Marilyn next to her kept whispering "win, win win" and Tinker kept thinking "let me win something but not the trip to India, not India". Tinker carefully pulled one lot and opened it. She couldn't read it so she handed it to Marilyn.
-What? there was annoyance in Marilyn's voice and for a moment Tinker was afraid they still didn't win. But then Marilyn continued. -Of all the things we could get we're having concert tickets to Tom Jones Show?
-What? Tinker laughed relieved.
-They're not just any tickets, woman said hurt. She was very proud of her work. Previous day man with two small children had win the car and cried for twenty minutes because he was so happy. And these two girls didn't appreciate what they've won. She would have been so grateful to get into Tom Jones Show.
-Yeah, well, these aren't, Marilyn noticed. -We have box seats and also backstage passes. What a pleasure!
-When is it? Tinker wanted to know.
-Tonight.
-Tonight?
-Yes. Tonight. So what shall we wear? Marilyn asked.
-You mean we're going?
-And you didn't? You silly thing, Marilyn laughed. -Of course we go. It's not actually what I was hoping for but it has to do.
