Make a wish

Part One † Make A Wish

Tinker and Marilyn were called as they were just because the way they were. Tinker, as a Tinkerbell, was not very short but looked like a fairy in every other way. Her eyes were green and she barely ever wore a make up, just a natural blush covering her high cheeks and golden lashes twinkled in the sunlight. She had long legs but just slight curves, which she found unforgivable.
Marilyn was, in her opinion, too curvy. She wasn't tall but had the killer body with hips that make you envy her even if you'd rather be like Twiggy. Most of the time she carried herself very well, with born confidence. Whenever she laid her blue, no brown, no... gray eyes (she loved colored contacts) on you, you said goodbye to your every intention of not to fall for anyone ever again. That's how beautiful and charmy these two ladies were.
Though charm was far from them when they walked on the street of nightly Dublin. They were slowly and clumsily approaching the wilder areas of the city, without knowing it.
-Can you imagine they lost our baggage? Tinker asked.
-No, Marilyn said. -Hell no. And you know what? I don't have any clean underwear with me.
-But... When we get to the hotel, it's going to be morning soon and they'll deliver those to us.
-Underwear?
-Stupid. Baggage.
-I'm not stupid! Marilyn argued.
-Yes you are, and drunk too.
-You think so?
Marilyn stopped and took a good look at her friend. She seemed kind of obscure.
-I'm sure. And you know what else? Tinker asked.
-What?
-We're lost.
Marilyn didn't argue about that since Tinker always knew where they were and where they should go. Hell, if there wasn't Tinker, Marilyn probably had not even left to Dublin. It was her crazy friend who suggested the idea and Marilyn was crazy enough to say yes.
-What time it is? she asked.
-Almost five.
-Shit. Can we call a cab?
-My battery is out. And we don't have the number either.
They tried to look around in order to find a phone booth but there was only empty street in their sight. Looking it made Tinker slowly realize that they had passed better, safe areas way ago.
-Come on Marilyn, let's go back.
-Back where?
-If we get to the night club we can take a cab from there.
-Oh. Okay.
They started to head back. Suddenly Dublin fog surrounded them. Marilyn was little scared.
-It's cold, she said. -Are you sure you know where we're going?
-Positive.
There was slight of disbelief in Tinker's voice. That's why she said:
-Have you ever played three wishes?
-What's that?
-You have to choose one thing you really hope for. Then your friend does the same. But it's like if she says "I want million dollars", you can't say the same of even amount of money, but it has to be like "I want bank account where money never stops". See? They have to have something to do with each other.
-Okay. What about the third?
-That's what you have to decide together. Without talking to each other. It's been told that if you get that last wish right, two previous will come true.
-Sounds weird.
-I know. But you can't even hint what's your third wish.
-Okay, Marilyn said. -Make a wish.
-Umm... Tinker thought hard. -I wish... I wish that I'd be married with Brian.
Marilyn giggled loudly. Laughter echoed of the fog and made them stop for a moment. They looked around and then started to walk again.
-Why'd you laugh?
-Do you still long after Brian? I mean Backstreet Boys were over like two years ago and he's happily married with Leighanne. Of all the things you could have wished for you wish you'd get to marry Brian?
-Yeah, Tinker said and blushed a little. -What about you, what do you wish?
-Do you know how hard this is? Marilyn asked after thinking for a moment. -I have to want a relationship with someone and I can't make up anyone.
-What about the guy you dated last year?
-Oh he's so over.
-I thought you considered calling him last week.
-Which is why it's such a good thing you brought me to Dublin, Marilyn said and tapped her friend on a shoulder. -Okay. Now I know. I follow you lead and wish I would have a very special, heavy and serious relationship with AJ.
Then it was Tinker's turn to laugh.
-AJ? I thought you'd go with Nick.
-No, he's too famous for me. AJ's good, he's been under so long. Wonder what he's doing right now...
Fog kept thickening and it was getting harder to see even street signs. Once car almost ran over them, 'cause they didn't either hear or see it coming. Alcohol in their blood vanished with every step they took. They had been walking for over twenty minutes when Marilyn suddenly stopped, took her shoes off and sat on the ground and lighted a cigarette.
-Break, okay?
Tinker nodded and sat down herself.
-Hey, what about that third wish? she asked. -Have you already figured it out?
-Yeah, Marilyn said. -I think I have such a wish you'd never guess it.
-Oh? Say with me: I wish...
They said those two words together and then silence surrounded them.
