new york, new york

chapter 42

The night got later and I got tired. My feet were aching of walking and dancing with my new shoes, there was a starting headache behind my forehead.
-Do you know who could drive me away from here? I turned to ask from Brian who was sitting next to me.
-What? You dont mean that! Well party til dawn. Dont you know whats this all about?
-No, no one told me.
-Its best way to avoid jet-lag, Brian grinned. -Oh well, actually it isnt.
-So youre finally going to Europe?
-Back there.
Brian looked at me with weird face.
-You have no idea what weve been doing lately, do you?
-Not really. Since I got NY Ive been busy with other stuff.
-What about the story?
-Its finished.
-Anna, just remember, there are no ends in real life. Things go on, whether youre there to see or not.
I did know that as I looked AJ and Helen getting back from the bar walking hand in hand. Then Helen whispered something to AJ and disappeared to the ladies room.

-Alright, I suddenly heard DJs voice. -Maybe its time to chill out a little. Here goes a song for all the memories you made together.
I recognized the melody and I couldnt avoid looking at AJ. The song was Feels like the first time. The very same song AJ had quoted in his first message to me.
I stood up and walked to him. He didnt say anything, just showed me the way to the dance floor.

I didnt know where to put my hands or what to do. But AJ pulled me close to him. I hid my face to his chest, I didnt want him to see tears in my eyes. I was determined I wouldnt cry. He had to think I had moved on too.
But feeling him close to me, his arms around me, his chin rubbing against my hair... I wanted to ask if he had requested the song from DJ but I just couldnt. Everything cant be planned, but that much cant be coincidence.

-Next one for me! Nick yelled as we got back to the table. He made it sound like we would have danced for old times sake. Well, in our weird way we did.
Helen was already sitting there, AJ went to her and laid his hand on her shoulder, standing next to her. Helen looked up and touched his hand, lifted it to her lips and kissed his every finger. I had to look away.

Sun was lighting the alley when we finally crawled out from the club. There were three cars waiting for us. I was pushed to one by Tom.
-Hey, watch it! I didnt kind of keep my balance anymore.
-Just get in!
I sat down to pout and we started to move. Then I realized who was in the car with me. AJ. Helen. And Tom was driving.
-Where are we going to? I tried to see some landmarks, but that was kind of hard because I didnt even know where we had left from.
-Downtown.
-Oh great. How will I ever get home from there? What time is it anyway?
-Its almost seven.
-Oh Lord. What a night.
-Tell me about it, Helen commented. AJ looked out from window.
-Couldnt you just drop me to the nearest underground station?
-I dont think so, Tom said.
-What about others? I asked as I looked behind us. -Where are they going to?
-To the hotel.
-Could someone please explain me something?
-Youre coming with us, Helen hesitated. -Isnt she?
AJ looked at me.
-Yeah. I cant let you go home alone in that condition.
-What? So youre just going to drag me to some hotel...?
-Were here.
-Thanks Tom. Ill see you tomorrow.
-AJ, dont be late. Helen, take care of him.
-I will.
They started to get out from the car and I didnt have any other chance than to follow them because no one reacted to my growling.
