Day 4 - Part 1

I stop to think about that for a while. It seems that life wasn't easy for them at those days. It isn't easy for all of us. But for them it's different, I think. It's like five lives are winded together and everything that moves one makes all take a step into a way they may not want to got. But in order to stick together they have to. I guess that's the reason why AJ agreed to continue shooting the video even after hearing from Kim what had happened. Obviously Carlos tried to keep closed set but didn't succeed very well. Even I had seen how many doors and different corridors there were in the house.

MAKING THE VIDEO...

14.52

Lots of staff in a big room. Carlos and AJ stand in the middle of it. There are various marks on the floor. Carlos walks around with AJ.

CARLOS: This is fire, you see. So you run around and when ever you reach this point, you get horrified, it's burning, you can feel the heat.
AJ: I sure can.

Nick laying by the pool.

NICK: They just told me that my part is not up until in the evening, after dinner or something. Quite nice, I'd say. It's hot. It's really hot out here. It's not supposed to be this kind of weather at this time of year but here we go. I don't complain.

Nick dives into a pool. AJ runs around in the room, trying to look horrified but most times failing badly. Carlos seems like he's suffering.

Gorgeous woman walks in. AJ stops.

CARLOS: AJ, this is Dolores. Your dancing partner.

Close shot of Dolores.

DOLORES: Hola, me llamo Dolores. I dance with Alex.

Back to the room.

CARLOS: She doesn't really speak English but dance is international language, right?

Pictures of AJ and Dolores dancing. First they really suck, until they get very intensive.

CARLOS: Remember the flames! Remember the fire! When she leads you, you still feel the heat, you're afraid but you feel safe with her. You feel safe, still safe... Now you get burn, little bit. Look at her. She smiles, look at her smile, she's so beautiful. She holds your hand. Flames are burning you but you don't care, you don't care!

18.30

CARLOS: Okay, dinner.

Boys entering to the yard where there is long table full of food. Everybody sits around the table, everybody who have something to do with the video. Nice, warm dinner.

Cara sneaked out to the yard. She was on her way to steal some food. Carlos had told Tito to tell her that she wasn't supposed to eat anything before shooting but food wasn't for her but for Ophelia. Of course she couldn't have explained it so she had to do it on the sly.
Cameras were all around the table and Boys were having a good time. At least they seemed like it. But there was something in a way Kevin kept replacing his food on his plate, way that Brian looked at Kevin's hands but not his eyes, way that AJ got lost in thoughts when his leg softly pressed against his dancing partner's, Dolores', leg. Camera didn't catch those but just Nick telling some stupid joke and Howie and Alicia sharing a kiss or two, feeding desert to each other.
Band, unoccupied for these few days, was sitting in the other end of the table. Suddenly Kim punched Greg in between his ribs and pointed at Cara who just vanished to the early shadows.
-I'm worried of her, Kim said.
-You? I didn't know you ever even talked to her.
-I do! We went to that concert once and... Now I have to. She's been casted to the video.
-No? Our little Cara?
-Yeah. Carlos has some major idea how it's going to be.
-But she's just a kid, Greg said.
-Just a kid who's doing drugs and following us all around the world. I don't think it was wise to take her with us. I don't trust her.
-You don't have to trust her. She wouldn't ever do anything to harm Boys. She loves them.
-You don't have to mean bad when you can do it, Kim reminded. -Just an ounce of marihuana in her custody when we cross the border and...
-How do you know she does drugs?
-You can see that. Can't you? Besides I talked with Be-Bob.
-Yeah, but it was back when she travelled with those three girls. She's clean now. You'll see.
-I sure hope I don't have to see too much. Could you pass me some more wine?
-Don't
you have some work to do tonight? Greg asked.
-Not really. I'm just gonna follow how Carlos' own people do all the work. So... Wine, please.

Picture is blurry. It's getting dark and they don't have any lights on. Ophelia is standing in front of skyline so all I can see is her silhuette and smoke curling around her.
-I don't think you should do it, Ophelia says.
-Why not?
-You're too deep already. I mean what good have they ever done to you?
-Good? They saved my life!
-I used to think like that too.
Ophelia lights another smoke and keeps lighter on for few seconds and I can see how she peered into camera.
-But it's not that easy, Cara, and it will not be. Sure, you work for them. But when do you mean to them? Nothing. That's the truth. And as long as you hope for something else they're going to use you. Not because they decide to but because it's so easy. You're there and you're willing. It's enough. And before you know they've ruined your life. Not that they intended to. They have no idea of it. It just happened.
-Then why'd you come back?
Autofocus tries to find some stability into picture but doesn't succeed. Her figure blurs, sharpens, blurs again several times until she answers:
-I have nowhere else to go.
