Day 3 - Part 3

We have finished our breakfast. I’m leaning back and drinking coffee. This is getting interesting.
-Can I ask something?
-Sure.
-If Pie - or what ever her name was - sent Kevin’s semen to the lab... How could she have proved to been with Britney?
-You have to have two eyewitnesses of very intimate contact or dna-example, like semen.
-But women don’t have semen.
-Right.
-So what you’re saying is that...
-I never asked her. But yeah, I guess she had a tape of her and Britney.
-Uh-huh. What about dna-examples? I mean you could send it in and say that it’s Kurt Cobain’s.
-You can’t. They gather information of everyone accepted on the list. They have two to twenty peoples working for them. They take celebritie’s hair, or piece of their fingernails, or something like that. They work with hairdressers, guards, assistants, everyone reliable.
-But you could still lie, couldn’t you? I mean first send in a false example and...
-No. They triplecheck everything.
-Who they?
-Is it really relevant?
-I guess not.
-And believe it or not, even I don’t know everything.
-You seem to know much, I remark.
-I only know what happened to me. Remember that. Everything I tell you is purely subjective. I couldn’t be objective, not even if I wanted to. I mean they’ve affected on my life so strongly. And after seeing a man or a woman doing something you never expected, can you look their face on the paper at the same way?
-I don’t know, I say.
-Well, think about Britney. What ever she might be today, can you believe that years ago she was having an affair with a woman?
-It kind of turns me on, I grin at her.
-Men, she rolls her eyes. -But you get the picture?
-Parts of it, I admit.
She stands up and walks to the window. It’s easier for her to turn her back on me, when ever she needs to talk about painful things.
-I guess no one can ever understand it. I mean really understand it. Unless you’ve been part of it.
-Even if you’ve been part of it? I suggest.
-Yeah, that’s true. Even if you were there, you can’t understand. You just can’t.

Cara waited until it was completely silent in the house again. She had heard just the part of the conversation downstairs. But something in the air, or maybe the way Peach slammed her door on her way to her room, told her that there was something serious going on.
Carefully Cara went down the stairs. She felt dizzy, she was still high but trip wasn’t that bad anymore.
She opened the door to the living room and saw Pie lying on the couch.
-Peach? she asked.
-No, it’s me Cara.
-Oh. Honey, could you please turn the lights down?
Cara did that and room went dim, only the lamp Pie had lighted in the first place gave place some light.
-Is there something wrong? Cara asked with light voice.
Pie sat up and looked at her. Cara seemed so young, almost like a child in a dress she could have stole from her mother’s closet.
-Come here, sweety. I guess we need to talk.
Cara went to sit next to Pie.
-Peach and I had a fight just moments ago. I guess you heard part of it?
-Something. But nothing that really makes sense.
-OK.
-You’re not gonna brake up, are you? I mean you’re the only family I have.
Cara’s voice was filled with desperation. Pie bit her lip, not to know what to say, what to tell to that girl who was looking up to her.
-I don’t know.
Cara started to cry. She kept her eyes open, didn’t move, tears just fell down her face. Maybe she didn’t even realize those.
-Listen, Cara. I know, that we seem to be so cool. You’ve been with us, what, three weeks? That’s no time. You’ve been in the best parties, best towns. Everything has been easy for you.
Cara shook her head but Pie didn’t let her interrupt.
-But this is the way life goes. I’m really a reward hunter. My name is Pretty, and I’ve had almost every remarkable young celebrity in this country. I’m 23 years old and I’m about to rise to number one after I slept with Kevin few hours ago.
-You did?
-So that’s me. Whole time I’ve been here I’ve lied. I haven’t told even to Peach. You know how she took it? I went and slept with another person, another man. And I did that to a girl I love most in this world! Someone who’s been traveling with me for three years. Who has protected me, taken good care of me, been there with me trough everything we’ve done. She slept by me in the streets of Chicago, when we didn’t have anything. She’s... Fuck, she’s my everything! How could I do this to her?
Pie turned to Cara for answers, but how can an innocent 16-years old girl know anything about things like that?
-Do you love him?
-Who? Kevin? I thought so at first. I mean, it would have been easier. But he loves his wife. Nothing he does can change that.
-What if she finds out?
-I hope she doesn’t. I wont tell. No one saw us.
-Are you sure?
-As sure as one can be. I don’t want to break up their marriage! I don’t even know if I ever want to see him again.
-You do! He’s still one of the Boys!
Cara was scared. She wasn’t such a fan but she didn’t want to lose the last place she felt she belonged. Last people she could trust. Last chance to save her sister.
-Cara, you’re sweet. You don’t belong here. Just pack your bags and go home.
-I don’t have a home to go.
Pie sneered. -Sure you do.
-No I don’t.
Something in Cara’s voice makes Pie hesitating.
-All you told was true?
Cara nodded. -I didn’t know any better.
-So you mean...? Oh no, Cara. Oh baby. I’m so sorry.
Pie hugged her but she couldn’t cry anymore. She rested her head on Pie’s shoulder but could only feel herself numb.
-Don’t go away, please, she just whispered to Pie, who stared to the distance and wondered if things would work out. Could they work out anymore?
