Of the Creation of the Earth Countless years before time was counted a great presence saw the darkness of existence. Long had he slept while evil covered all. And he wept. For it was not his will. Thus it came to be that he challenged the darkness. The King of Darkness came forth with his creations and fell upon Jethmel, for that was the name of the light. Jethmel, though, had created all long before the darkness came. He had then slept for he was wearied from his labor. Then darkness came. Now there was a confrontation. There was a great battle of light and dark. In it fell the King of evil. He was cast out of time and space to an abyss of flame and death. But his servants escaped. In the battle a world had been created. It was round, like a disc. But it was imperfect for it was part good and part evil. The lands of the west were perfectly formed and full of light and bliss. Often did Jethmel come there. But the east was light only half of the day when Jethmel rose into the sky to look upon it in sorrow. For the other half the King of Darkness reigned and cast a pale and eerie light on the Eastern lands and he became mighty. For he had escaped from the abyss though his strong body was destroyed. And he took the form of a disc of pale light so as to deceive Jethmel. In the western lands Jethmel created many fair things. Them he named Lords of the West for they were fair and strong. Into them he entrusted the world. Their names were Felemar, Lord of the Waters, Telcamis, Master of Doom, Thrimfi, King of the skies, Vilos, Warrior of the lands, and Mahelos, Overseer of the people. There were others also who became masters of the forge and other crafts and skills. But the Lords of the West took pity on the Eastern lands and blessed them for the first time with plants. Many green things grew near the coasts and rivers where the power of Felemar was strong and the Winds of Thrimfi blew swiftly. And the Lords of the West also created three races of people who were watched over by Telcamis and Mahelos. The races were the elves, tall and fair, they were named Tiel by Mahelos, the Dwarves, strong and courageous, called Grimvar by Telcamis, and the Men, who were bold and short lived. The men were un-named by the lords of the west for they were strange to them and disliked. A fourth race was created in secret by Thrimfi and Vilos. They were the Darosians. But the Lords of Darkness came to the east and created evil images of the three good races. They created the orcs, in mockery of men, the Dark elves, in mockery of elves, and the trolls, in hatred of dwarves. For the Lords of Darkness had an especial hatred of dwarves. Dwarves seemed to them invincible for though they could be slain their cities would not fall. For they were delved deep and strong. These three evil races were not alone in the darkness. There were others, Dragons, Flame Trolls, Wraiths, and even more foul things. And so it came to be that Jethmel left the earth at last but still watched it from above during the day. But in the night he slept and the creatures of the Darkness roamed at will under the pale light of their King.
