A Friend

by Gina Dawson

And I see you as my friend
Bonding together in loneliness
You are here with me although
You have been gone for decades
I am touched by your vulnerability
As I pour mine out and drink in
the greyness and the blank stare
that reflects in my mirror's own.
You are the one breathing fire
in those eternal memorygraphs
We filed away so long ago.

Others I met with their mock sincerity
Troubling them terribly with my
Flaw of human need and desire,
But you, with your openess and
Childlike trust: envelop me like
the sun itself pourning through
My favorite seceret room in bursts.
you still have the gift of touching
without contact, a heart that beats alone.
You are all of everything to me
I only wish they knew that all along
