Lucifer was one of the greatest angels of God before he challenged God and was cast down. He now seeks to oppose God?s people (John 10:12), and to cause them to suffer (Job Chapter 1-42). Lucifer tempted Jesus in various ways, but Jesus easily overcomes these temptations and sends the Devil away (Mathew 4:1-7). The Devil also tries as hard as he can to hinder the works of God (1 Thessalonians 2:18). Satan has the ability to perform incredible miracles as well as signs and wonders (Revelation 16:14). He also seeks to deceive God?s people by appearing as an ?angel of light? as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 11:14. It says in 1 Peter 5:8 that he is dangerous and easily devours those who are unwary of his tricks and deceit. ?What does this mean for believers?? you may ask. God warns the true believers of him, to be wary and put on the full armor of God. When we do this, we can resist the powers of the Devil and the evil forces which work in this world to deceive us and cause us to stumble and fall (Ephesians 6:10-18). John warns us to be wary of the spirits and prophets who come before us for they may be agents of the Devil. He tells us to test them so that we may have no doubt of their source (1 John 4:1-6). |
