Entry for June 18, 2006
Baby bro': Every time I look at your picture or think about you, I see your last glance back as you left that night. Did you know? I wish I had given you a hug. Your nephew ate the chicken sandwich you brought over from Rally's that night. You asked if anyone wanted it, but we had all just eaten, so you threw it in the fridge for later. But later never came for you :(. When he asked for it two days later, I almost said "No, that's your uncle Dawud's sandwich"...then I almost said no because my crazy head was saying that I should keep it as some sort of reminder...I ended up keepingthe receipt instead. When I saw the car yesterday and got the rest of your clothes out of it, I was surprised at how you couldn't really tell by looking at it what had happened inside...a couple of marks inside, some residue from the fingerprint dust on the outside (Laura did clean thedust off before she came with the car),and some paint on the tires left from where the police outlined where your car stopped. It's unbelievable to me that something as important as your short life did not leave more of a physical mark. The hole that your absence leaves is more than physical. I get waves of sorrow...it's still so hard to believe that you're not going to walk back through the door...loud and filling up every inch of space....saying stuff just to irritate me like brothers do. I love you so much ... I wish I had taken more time while you were here to really let you know. Your oldest girl went with us to the theater yesterday to see my daughter play Jasmine in AladdinJr. She looks so much like you, and she is just a sweetie. Hoping that you are looking down on your babies today on Father's Day. 2006-06-18 22:33:19 GMT
