Special Delivery

Well this is my Valentine's day songfic.

Word of warning: My sick little mind came up with an idea and I am going to carry it out.   Now this fic probably won't be the biggest romantic thing I have done, (or that much like Valentine's day until the end,) but I thought this would be interesting.

Please e-mail all feedback, (including flames and kidney shots for this strange idea), to the same address listed at the bottom.

Hey now do you see me down the way
Been watching you everyday

Zelgadis Greywords; a rumored all around trouble maker and some say all around psycho, watched a pack of people from the opposite side of the courtyard in front of Vertiline High School.   It wasn't the full group he was interested in, it was just one person.   A person that shone like a beacon of light, that stood out from all the crowd in his eyes.   Yes, she was beautiful to him, and he could barely control himself when the spunky redhead was around.   Yes, she was very beautiful, but alas he could never have her, "I'm just a freak," he muttered under his breathe as he watched her with unblinking eyes.

The object of the young man's obsession was a girl by the name of Lina Inverse.   Lina was a Junoir at Vertiline High School, and she was one of the popular girls in school.   This mourning she was hanging out in front of the school with her friends before class started.   As she talked to Amelia she shot a glance towards were Zel was leaning up against a tree.   Their eyes met for a second and then she turned away as the bell rung thinking, 'Why was that creepy guy staring at me?"

Zel had been quite shocked, 'She looked at me.   She actually looked at me,' was all he could think of as he started planning.   He would watch her, would watch her movements for a while, see when she was alone.   Then, when the time came, he would make his move.

In my car on your street is where I stay
I know you better that way

Lina walked into her first class of the day; literature.   Now its not that she didn't like lit, it was just the teacher was so boring, and she had this odd feeling of being watched.   Everyday when Lina sat down in class she always had this feeling of eyes always being on her.   Today the sensation was stronger than usual and she decided to take a look around the class.   As she scanned the room she saw him, 'What's he doing here, I don't remember him having this class?'

Zelgadis had been watching Lina from his seat in the back of the class room.   When she turned around he shifted his glance towards the front of the room.   He noticed out the corner of his eye she was staring at him.   He smile slightly as he looked towards her thinking, 'My pretty, pretty Lina.   Soon my pretty one soon.'

Lina soon turned back around.   One class was beginning and two that creepy guy looked at her again and this time he smiled.   He smiled right at her and it was kind of a sinister smile at that.   As she turned around his pictured the way he looked smiling and it caused her to shiver.   She didn't know what caused the shiver, she wanted to say fear, but she wasn't that afraid of him.   'He probably only got the bad rap because he's a chimera,' Lina thought.

One day I'll be meeting you for real
You'll feel bad like I feel

At lunch Lina was sitting with Amelia, Sylphiel, Gourry, and Filia when she felt the same sensation come over her like in lit. class.   She shot her head around till she found him.   There he was in the same place as this mourning and he was smiling again.   Lina shivered again as her eyes registered the smile, and the look of a predator that was in his eyes.   "Miss Lina, what's wrong," Amelia asked worried about her friend.

"Oh, its nothing Amelia," Lina said as she returned to her food.

"Don't lie to us Lina," Filia said as she place a hand on Lina's shoulder, "You can tell us.   We're your friends."

Lina sighed slightly and said, "Its that guy, Zelgadis I believe is his name, well every time I look at him he is staring at me with this smile on his face that just creeps me out."

Sylphiel, and Amelia placed the hands over this mouths as they gasped, "Zelgadis Greywords, he is watching you," Sylphiel asked, "I would be careful some people say he isn't all there in the head."

"I know what everyone else says, but how do they know, I mean has anyone every really talked to him," Lina asked and got resounding no's from the group.

"But, Miss Lina, you can't be serious he even hangs out with that Xellos guy, and he is a proven basket case," Amelia sputtered.

Lina looked down at the ground and played with the grass a bit, "I...I just feel kinda sorry for the guy, that's all."

Later on, Gourry had just walked Lina home and was talking to her as she stood outside her house.   "What do you think you'll do," Gourry asked.

"I don't know, but I will see," Lina replied happily.

"Well, good luck," said Gourry.

With that Lina gave him a sisterly hug and sent him on his way.   As she was about to walk in she got that same feeling again.   She looked around but didn't see Zelgadis.   She shrugged and went inside.

It'll blow you away
You're gonna fall for me

Zel sat in his car down the street a little from Lina house and smiled as he watched her talking.   Soon that smile turned into a look of depression and anguish.   He had seen the hug and he was now seeing red, 'No, this can't be.   I have a chance and it is screwed up by that blonde idiot.   Well, if I can't have her, no one can.'   Zel started his car and drove off.

Zel drove into town in a silent rage.   He parked his car on the street and walked into a flower shop.  "Good day sir, how may I help you," ask the clerk.

"I need a box of roses," Zel said shortly.

"That'll be fifty dollars, by the way it comes with a free small teddy bear as part of our Valentine's Day sale," piped in the clerk.

"Fine," said Zel as he threw down sixty dollars and marched out the door with his purchase.

"Wait sir you..." the clerk trailed off when he noticed the young man wasn't listening.

And the voices told me to blow you away
You're gonna fall for me

Zel walked down the street as he carried his package.   He was angry but he didn't want to crush the box.   If he did that then she might suspect something was wrong with it.   He walked towards another shop all the while having a mental battle.   'Yes Zel, you should do this.   Show her how you feel.   Show her you will not be turned down.'

He walked into the shop to see the man he had wanted to find.   There behind the counter stood a man with purple hair; he was flipping through a book, like he was reading it, but his eyes remained shut.   The man soon looked up and opened his eyes slightly.   Then said, "Ah, Zel-kun, you've come to pay me a visit.   Oh, what do I own for such a moment," Xellos said as he hugged Zel.

Zel pushed Xellos away and said, "Not like that you fruit cake.   I need some of your special items for a delivery I am going to make."

"Oh, what type, the normal explode in your face things, or something a little more grand," Xellos said with a smile on his face.

"How about this...," Zel trailed off as he whispered into Xellos' ear.

"That's a wonderful idea Zel-kun.   I'm surprised I hadn't thought of that method before.   You must really have it in for someone if you want something that precise."

Xellos reached behind the counter and pulled out a tightly packed brown package no bigger than the palm of his hand.   He gave it to Zel while asking, "You do know how to set the trigger correctly, right?"

Zel nodded as he left.   "Oh yes, don't stand too close, that might be small but it packs a lot." Xellos yelled after him.

Hey now well I'm knocking on your door
This special delivery is yours

Zel drove home and walked inside.   He placed the items out on his kitchen table and turned on a desk light that was attached to it.   He cleared some space out of the pile of books on pyrotechnics and other books on explosives.   He opened the box of roses and looked at the small bear that lay inside.   He smiled thinking, 'You know I think I want to be near when this goes off.'

Zel spent most of his night working on rigging up the trigger on the box and the brown package that he set in the box.   He had put a small sheet of asbestos over the contents to make sure that they would be okay.   At about midnight he had finished the final piece of work and now put the box back on the package and set it on a shelf.   "Only two days before we give her a big surprise," he smiled wildly as he walked to his bed.

My infatuation it's true
Hello, I got something for you

The next day Lina looked over to where Zelgadis was as she was waiting for school to begin.   Today instead of a smile he just stared a the group with apathy.   Lina thought this was odd.   Just the other day he seemed to be looking and acting like everything was going his way.   But, today looked like he was locked in hell again, and that made Lina begin to wonder.   'Is he really crazy like they say?   I mean that would explain the mood swing, but is it that or is he just lonely?   Maybe I should go talk to him, but...but, oh I wouldn't make it past the second sentence,' Lina continued to berate herself until her thoughts where interrupted.

"Miss Lina, you there," Amelia asked while waving her hand in front of her friend's face.

"Oh, yeah I was just thinking that's all," Lina rubbed her hand behind her head and laughed nervously, hoping no one noticed who she was looking at a moment before.

"Oh, Miss Lina some people are saying that they saw Zelgadis purchase a box of flowers and some other weird package yesterday," Amelia sputtered out the information.

"Does anyone know what was in the other package," Lina asked curiously, wanting to know what the estranged chimera was up to.

"We don't know, but some people have said many things.   Some even think that it was a bomb and that he is going to deliver it to the school on Valentine's Day and watch people get blown up," Sylphiel added with worry.

It'll blow you away
You're gonna fall for me

"No that can't be it," Lina answered skeptically, "I don't think he would do something like that even if he is a little mentally unstable."

"But, what if he is that bad and is planning to bomb the school?   It would be unjust to sit by and do nothing.   I say we go over there and confront him," Amelia began to sputter about justice and all that jazz while pointing towards Zel.

"Yeah, that's a real good plan Amelia," Lina replied sarcastically, "Just go over there and say 'Hey we heard you were crazy and thought you were going to bomb the school.'   That'll really do good want it.   That might be the thing to drive him off the edge."

"But...But...But," Amelia whined looking at Lina.

"No buts...," Lina shouted as the school bell rang, "I'll see you all later," she yelled as she ran towards class.

And the voices told me to blow you away
You're gonna fall for me

Zelgadis had noticed Amelia pointing at him.   He had guessed he was the prime subject of gossip and rumors today.   'My...my all this over a box of roses?   You think they've never seen a man buy flowers before,' he mused with a mischievous grin on his face.

He walked into lit class and sat down in his desk.   He looked to see the spunky little redhead sitting in her desk looking forward.   He smiled, a bit oddly, but smiled none the less.   'Only one more day Lina.   Just one more day then its all over.'

Lina turned around to look straight at Zel.   She had gotten that feeling he was watching her again and wanted to check.   By this time he had averted his gaze and was looking at the front of the class room.   'I could've sworn he was watching me again.   Man, this is really getting creepy.   Will I have to put up with this all year?'   Lina mused while trying to keep an eye on the odd senior.

'Yes, that's it Zel, once you give her the package it will be done,' Zel's mind spoke, loving what he was thinking, 'Yes, just one more day, she'll never knew what hit her.'

If you hadn't sold me I'd still be away
You're right in front of me

It was lunchtime and already half the student body had ducked, dodged, and all out ran at the sight of a box of flowers.   Everyone had heard about the purchase of the flowers and what they might hold.   Everyone was so paranoid that Zel had somehow slipped in the offending package that they wouldn't open them without a Teflon suit.   It was at this time that we find our normal group of friends sitting and eating outside.

"Man, I'm surprised that anybody still here will all the paranoia that's going around the school," Lina complained in-between bits of one of her many sandwiches.

"Well, its because half the student body thinks Zelgadis slipped a bomb filled package of flowers on to school campus," Filia replied, a bit annoyed herself at all the stupidity.

"What?!?!   There's a bomb in the school," Gourry began to look around quickly not hearing Filia correctly.

"It's just a rumor you idiot," Lina yelled as she bopped him on the head, "Well, I'll see you guys later," Lina got up as the bell rang.

Then, I'll be on my way
Breathing you okay

"Finally," Lina said as they walked out of the school, "I can finally go home, get away from all this idiocy."

Lina and Gourry walked down the street to her house chatting about small things.   Mainly, because Gourry could only understand small and simple things.   Half way there Lina stopped and turned around quickly looking for something.   "What?  What's wrong Lina," Gourry asked more confused than usual.

"I could have sworn we were being followed," Lina replied as she waited for any signs of movement.

When none came she turned around and began walking again, but now looking behind her every once in a while.   Soon they were at Lina's house.   She ran up and unlocked the door, turned and waved saying, "See you tomorrow Gourry," and went inside when the blonde walked away.

Can't break from my sins
Cannot pray
But you can't kill a man when he's got no hope
You can't kill a man when he's got no hope
God Help ME

What Lina didn't know was there was someone following her.   Someone who had the box of flowers that had been in question all throughout the day.   He had ducked away when she turned around and was now right in front of her house.   'Ok Zel, here we go, no backing out you must do this,' he thought as he walked forward, a sinister smile on his face.

He walked up and went to press the doorbell when he stopped.   'Is this really the right thing,' he thought until he heard, 'Yes, yes it is, you can't let that blonde idiot have her.'   With his mind made up he rang the bell.

He waited for a second when he heard, "Coming," being yelled from upstairs.   Soon the door flew open and just as the girl was about to say something her voice seemed to give out.   "Here, this is for you, Happy Valentine's Day," he said with a smile as he handed her the package.

It'll blow you away
You're gonna fall for me

Lina flew open the door expecting one her friend to be standing outside.   When she saw who it was her voice refused to work, and all she could do was move her jaw up and down.   'What is he doing here?   I could have sworn I saw him go the other way from school, and I didn't see him behind us either.'

Lina was still recovering from the shock when she was handed the box.   'Aww... how sweet and people say he hates everything," Lina mused as she started to undo the ribbon.   Then her mind suddenly remembered, 'Wait, that might be the box with the bomb!!!'

Lina looked at the box, turning pale as she thought of what this meant.   'So he choose me to die with I guess, how flattering.'   She looked up to Zel to noticed he had a look of, what looked like, confusion on his face.   'Ohh well, it was a good life while it lasted.'

Lina closed her eyes, undid the ribbon, and threw off the top.   Instead of the explosion she was fearing she felt something push the box down slightly.   She opened her eyes to see a brown box shoot into the air and then explode.   It was some sort of firework and in colors of red, white, and purple spelled out, 'Be Mine'.

And the voices told me to blow you away
You're gonna fall for me

Lina looked at Zel quite confused by this time.   Zel looked up at the firework show then down at Lina with a faint smile.   The look of utter confusion made him chuckle and ask, "Wasn't what you were expecting?"

Lina glared at him and said, "Of course its not, not with the rumors going around school.   I thought you want to kill me there," She yelled but could help from laughing a bit.

Zel silenced his laughter and in one swift move brought Lina close to him.   He placed a figure under her chin and made her look up at him, "Well, will you," he asked in almost a whisper.

Lina felt like she was turning to jelly right there.   She was so close to him.   So close to his stone skin, and yet, it was as soft and warm as anyone else's.   And, for once, he seemed totally sane.   "Tell me something, where did you get that box?"

"From Xellos.   My father, before he passed away, used to work in the pyrotechnics biz.   Xellos and I picked up a good bit of the tricks of the trade from him," he said lightly.

If you hadn't sold me I'd still be away
You're right in front of me

"Ohh," was all Lina could say as she looked up into to his eyes.   She saw a brilliance in them that captured her, made her want to be even closer.   She leaned into Zelgadis' chest and whispered, "I will," right before she kissed him.

Zel returned the kiss, but changed it from one of pure innocence to that of pure passion.   He could feel Lina shiver slightly as he prolonged the kiss.   He too was swept away in thrill and pleasure of the moment.   Soon they part and Lina stared into to his eyes, a bit blown away by the kiss.   Zel smiled and leaned towards her and whispered in her ear, "And by the way, the whole crazy thing is just an act."

With that he turned and walked away with a smile of true happiness on his face.   Lina watched him go and stood there for a moment afterwards.   After coming to her senses she place a hand to her lips and turned around to go back in.   'You know, I think I'm beginning to like this crazy holiday.'

Then, I'll be on my way
When you breath out of me.
