The Tale of Illianna and Vladimir
Prologue: The Prophecy
Well this is a background fic about the two original characters I have created. It starts at the beginning of Illianna's life and goes on to how she meet Vladimir. Hope anyone who reads enjoys.
In the small village of Chelta, located in the far corner of the demon peninsula, an old woman sits next to a fire outside of her small hut. As she is cooking today's breakfast she quickly turns to see a couple heading up the road. She turned toward them and waved while shouting, "Good day."
The couple answered back as they approached, "Good day, has the wise woman opened shop," playfully asked the young man.
"She will be soon," the woman slimed when she recognized who they were, "Ah, Arthur and Mirium, to what do I owe this visit? You here just to chat with an old woman as usual or is there something different?"
Mirium, a woman of about twenty years of age standing five foot three with green eyes and blonde hair, spoke up a bit sheepishly, "Well...Arthur...that is, Arthur and I wanted to know if I was pregnant or not," she finished with a bit of a blush on her cheeks.
"Ah...I see so you've come to the wise woman to find out if you are with child or not. Well, come here child, sit next to me and close your eyes," the woman said quite motherly like.
Mirium complied as she and her husband sat down near the old woman and then closed her eyes while Arthur held her hand. Mirium flinched for a second when she felt the old bony hand run over her belly but soon settled down and began to relax as she heard the wise woman chant something. A few moments later she opened her eyes and asked quite hopefully, "What is the answer to my question."
The wise woman looked up at here with a look of combined happiness and concern, "Its a girl," she answered.
Mirium embraced her husband with such a feeling of joy that she barely heard the wise woman say, 'but,' she then turned and asked nervously, "But, what?"
"I can feel that your young' in has something special about her. I have never felt anything like this and I have been doing this for ages. Give me a moment," with that the old woman walked to her small hut.
Arthur and Mirium looked worriedly at each other as many crashes and small explosions where heard from the small shack. All the commotion was soon silenced and a dust cloud began to pour out of the door. As the dust cleared they saw the old woman walking out with a cauldron full of water and what looked to be a spice rack. The woman set the cauldron on the fire and let it began to boil as she started arranging the bottles in the rack. Upon closer inspection one could see that the bottles where filled with things that someone would never consider spices. As the water began to boil the woman began tossing in different things form the bottles. Once the last ingredient was added she began chanting. Soon the steam rising from the pot began to twist and form a veil on which a picture was displayed. The picture was of a young girl of about fifth teen walking in the woods with a spear in her hands. The old woman looked at the confused couple and said, "This is your daughter, Mirium and Arthur."
They both looked back at the picture to see the young girl come into a clearing and set down the spear on a near by rock. They watched in fascination as she began to chant and move with the motions of a spell. Soon the earth responded and began to shape and mold itself into a likeness of the young girl. They watched as she appraised her work and smiled at it.
Mirium herself was smiling, and almost totally caught in the image went to touch the girl. The steam swirled and the image disappeared. Mirium looked at the wise woman and asked, "What does this image mean?"
"It means that your daughter will be one of the strongest shamans this village has seen in a long time. A, so to say, chosen of the earth mother herself. But, with such a power also comes burden," replied the woman as she waved her hand and the steam produced another image.
There was the girl, a bit older then in the last one, throwing spells at these hideous creatures coming towards the village. As they closed she kneeled to the earth and caused spikes to impale most of them. Two broke through and charged at her. She quickly spun, hitting one with the shaft of her spear, and then running the other start through the heart. She then summoned a ball of fire and roasted the incapacitated creature she had knocked aside. With her task complete she thrust the spear forward, knocking the creature off of it, and walked back towards the village. She goes to the tavern and sits down in a corner. She sighs as the barmaid sheepishly asks for her order and then quickly turns away. "You see, with all that power she is the town protector, but they still fear her because she has that much power," the wise woman pointed out as the image showed many of the bar patrons nervously look the other way when the girl looked towards them.
Mirium was almost in tears over how her daughter was being treated and asked, "Can't they see she is their protector, not some freak to be shunned," then laid her head on her husband's shoulder.
"Wait a minute there is something else. A warning of something to come," said the old woman as the picture changed to show a man in a black trench coat wielding a serrated crimson sword. The picture panned to show him looking at the village of Chelta in front of him. The old woman began to speak, sounding as if in a trance, as the picture showed the area of the man's face again. "There will come a dark stranger from the south and he will bring the forces of hell itself with him. Though he does not come for the village but its protector. He wishes to take her for his own and have her rule over the forces of darkness by his side. He serves only one, and that one wishes control of the earth's chosen and will send his most trusted lieutenant to bring her to him. Beware, the coming of darkness, beware the seduction of evil, beware of his symbol," said the old woman as the picture showed the mask the man wore. It was half black and half white cut down the middle with a sinister smile converting into a solemn frown.
Both soon to be parents where almost pure white with the fright of this prophecy coming true and their daughter being taken away to serve any kind of demon they could imagine. Mirium was in tears now and was about to protest when the wise woman threw up a hand to silence her. "There is a silver lining to this prophecy of doom. Unlike his brethren this lieutenant is honorable and will not force her to come. He will give her a choice and if she chooses against it then she and the village will no longer be troubled by the attacks of this demon race. Teach her to no jump to conclusion and warn her as best you can and she has a chance to continue her life here. But, if she is shunned because of her power like before then it is more likely she will turn against all she holds dear to join him," she finished as the man appeared again this time holding the girl in a gentle embrace.
Mirium looked at her daughter in the image and noticed the smile across her face. It was a smile of true happiness that this stranger seemed to cause. She moved closer and asked, "She loves him doesn't she?"
The wise woman didn't look at her and said, "If the town doesn't except her and she doesn't have a chance to love and be loved by anyone here then she will fall for his charm. But, don't be afraid, I sense that he returns her love. Again unlike his brethren this one has the capacity to love and have emotions."
"I pray that they don't shun her," Mirium said while turning to look at her husband.
Arthur looked at her and smiled, "I'm sure we can somehow change this outcome."
"I hope so," Mirium added as she stood up. With that both of them said their goodbyes to the wise woman and headed back home.
The wise woman watched them leave and then looked back into the steam to see the girls face once again. She frowned and said, "I feel sorry for you my child. You have no idea what is to befall you, but you are lucky that it is his knight that will take you and not the dark lord himself. At least the knight retains some of his human nature."
The steam disappeared and a faint golden glow was seen in the wise woman's eyes before she collapsed into what was close to sleep.
