Scientific Name: Emblema picta

Origin: Arid northern interior of Australia

Size: 10cm - 11cm

Description: Male Pale brown on the crown and back, the tail is brown.  The face, chin and throast are scarlet.  Underparts are black extending to the chin and spotted with white.  Centre of belly is scarlet.  Upper mandible is black with red on the tip, lower mandible is red with blue at the base.  Eyes are white and legs are brown.
Female Similar to male, scarlet on face and belly are more limited.

Both birds died today - possibly due a heavy infection of air sac mites. Unsure if I will replace them or pick another bird from my wish list.  But I will wait until the Cordons and Gouldians have fledged their young (fingers crossed on that one too).
