Red-cheeked Cordon Bleu

Scientific Name: Uraeginthus bengalus

Origin: Equatorial Africa

Size: 11cm - 13cm

Description: Male Mousey brown upperparts and bellie blended with sky blue on face, throat, breast, upper tail coverts and sides.  Tail a duller blue. Crimson red ear patches. Mandible light read with black tip.  Eyes brown, legs brownish yellow.
Female Similar to male but lacking red ear patches and blue is less intense.

This pairing are two of my original birds.  These are great to watch, very affectionate to each other and very active.

They also are the first to produce babies - two babies to fledge on 27 July 2004 - infact they left too little early.  See the Breeding page for more details.
