| Sharks | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Well the highlight of the diving was seeing the sharks !!! After doing our PADI, Denise and I decided to do a shark course, very interesting !!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There over 350 species of shark, the smallest the Cookie Cutter is 16cm long, the largest is the Whale shark 15m long. Of these we saw 4 species, Black Tip, White Tip, Grey reef and (left) Zebra shark The Zebra shark is also known as the leopard shark. A very laid back creature that spends the day lying on the sand bottom of a reef then shows it is nocturnal when hunting. It can reach 12ft long |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The other 3 species of shark we saw, Black Tip, White Tip and Grey Reef (left) are the three most common to the Maldives ! The Grey reef is a medium to large shark. It can reach 9ft long. Recognisable due to the white tip on its dorsal fin but it is different from the white tip as it has a white below. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The White Tip above is a smaller shark, has the same white tip as the grey reef but the difference is that the white tip is grey all over. They have the same diet as the grey reef :- Fish, Crab, Lobster and Octopus (Not Humans!!) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Black Tip is a small shark with a rounded snout and Black tip on the dorsal fin. They prefer the shallower water of reefs and lagoons!! They tend to feed of small fish. We saw a few of these under our water villa !!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rays | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It may be surprising to some but the ray is from the same family as the sharks. This is because like they shark they have no bobes but they have a vertabrae, this is made from cartillage. The largest species is the Manta ray and can be upto 9m wide ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| (Left) The Spotted Eagle Ray was spotted on our last dive they are called this because of the spotted back and head shaped like an eagle, porbably the prettiest of all rays. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (Right) The Marble or Black Blotched Ray again was spotted on our last dive they have many blotches on their back, hence the name, they are relatively small rays, the one seen here was 1m wide ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
