Why I Hate Depression Medication
by: Niebezpiczny Ksiezyc
If anyone has ever taken depression medication who is reading this, then you probably know what I am incoherently babbling about. If not, then my dear reader, have a ball trying to sort through the random thoughts that fly through my mind!
Have you ever noticed how medication of any kind sometimes has side
effects that make you feel worse off then before you start taking them? Have
you ever thought that it would be better to live with that problem rather than
take that stupid medication? Well, hence the “why I hate depression medication”
essay. You see here’s some of the problems with that kind of medication. They
are supposed to alter your brain chemistry, mostly your Serotonin levels. But
alteration of your “normal” or “natural” brain chemistry comes at a price. The
side effects are different for almost everyone. For me, the first medication
caused five straight days of nausea. Yea, great! Because I already didn’t feel
like crap, I really needed to be in physical pain besides my mental anguish.
Then comes the second medication because the first one made me too sick. And
these side effects are ever so much better, let me tell you! Gee, I love
shaking and feeling light headed. It is especially fun when you are
hypoglycemic and cannot tell whether you have low blood sugar levels, or your
medication is making you sick.
I mean seriously, have you ever read any of the side effects for those
mediations. Hmm... there are seizures (which I had, and let me tell you, are
not fun), nausea, tremors, light headed, dizziness, vomiting, headache,
fatigue, loss of sleep, loss of appetite, etc... Don’t those sound like fun?
Don’t you just want to go out and buy some of this lovely medication? Sure you
do!
So honestly I have to ask myself each time I take a pill, is this worth
it? Is the physical pain eventually going to ease my mental pain? If I thought
that I was slowly dying before, imagine how I feel after I take this stupid
medication. The good news is that these side effects only last for so long.
After that, your brain chemistry has been altered, and let the good times roll!
No more crushing depression! And no more crippling side effects! All is right
in the medically warped mind of your author!
