Final Thursday Press recognized by editors of Our Own Voice

Final Thursday Press of Cedar Falls, Iowa is pleased to announce that Vince Gotera has been awarded a 2004 Global Filipino Literary Award for Poetry for his book, Ghost Wars, (Final Thursday Press, 2003).

The Global Filipino Literary Awards honor authors and publishers of books by Filipino authors from around the world. The awards are presented annually by the editors of Our Own Voice. A plaque citation honoring both the author and publisher will be awarded and six selections from Ghost Wars will be published in the December 2005 issue of Our Own Voice.

"We applaud publishers worldwide who encourage the literary output of Filipino authors,” stated Remé-Antonia Grefalda, founding editor of Our Own Voice. “The next generation’s need to see their experiences reflected on the page will propel them to actively search for works by Filipino authors.”

Gotera, a resident of Cedar Falls, is a Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Northern Iowa. He serves as Editor of the North American Review, the nation’s oldest literary magazine. He is also the author of the poetry collections Dragonfly (Pecan Grove Press) and Fighting Kite (forthcoming from Pecan Grove Press).
