Summary: Captain America was one of Marvel's first super-heroes introduced in the 1940s. With the early 1950s however, Cap and other Golden Age stars faded away. In 1964, the Silver Age was booming and Marvel brought back Captain America in the pages of the Avengers. Cap became a regular member of the Avengers and also appeared in the anthology series, Tales of Suspense. With #100 the Tales of Suspense title changed to Captain America. Cap ran for many years until the Heroes Reborn storyline where the Avengers and Fantastic Four were taken to a alternate universe with new origins. Cap was given a new #1 and taken under the controversial Rob Liefeld. Many Cap fans were mad because the great team of Mark Waid and Ron Garney were forced off Cap. After a year in the Heroes Reborn universe, Cap and others returned with new shiny #1 issues again. Mark and Ron returned to the new Vol. 3 Captain America. In 2001, Marvel began its sub-numbering system with a smaller number indicating what issue it would be if the series hadn't been relaunched, so issue #42 was also #509. By the end of 2001, it was decided to move Captain America to the Marvel Knights imprint and once again the series was relaunched to a #1. This series later returned to the regular Marvel line and after Avengers Disassembled was relaunched yet again!
