History: Aug 1972-Feb 1986 #1-152, Mar 2001-Feb 2002 Vol. 2 #1-12 Summary: The Defenders title premiered after appearing in Marvel Feature. The Defenders were the non-team of heroes such as Doctor Strange, Hulk, Sub-Mariner and the Silver Surfer. Over the years the team added numerous members and even battled their rivals the Avengers. With #125 The New Defenders premiered after the original line-up broke up because it was fortold that global devasation would occur if they remained together. The New Defenders featured the Beast, Angel, Iceman, Gargoyle, Valkyrie and Moondragon. But with the launch of the X-Factor title, the original X-Men were needed again. Since their appearance in the title was the only thing keeping it alive, The New Defenders ended with #152. The original four Defenders later found out that the curse of them being united was a hoax and have reformed from time to time. In 2001, a new Defenders series was launched with the original line-up, however it only lasted until #12 followed by a six issue mini-series, The Order.
