Xenogears: Tales of the Contact
By:Sean Nephtali(Triple Triad Id)
"Huh? Ahh…ah!" The boy exclaimed. He wondered where he was, who he was. He stood up, looked around, and noticed he was in a forest. He heard a rankar dragon roar, and for some reason, he knew he must get away. He started running. Where? He didn't care. He was running from this frightened feeling that the rankar would surely overpower him. He found his way out of the forest, and a vast desert stood before him.
"No time to look back, gotta move on," the boy said, aloud, yet not realizing it. He made his way to the desert city of Dazil, where this boy would find out he was the next contact…
He entered through the archway, looking around at the bustling people. People from around the world gathered here to search for parts and accessories for ancient machines that are called gears. These gears where 50 feet tall, thousands of pounds in weight, and had the strength to lift 100 or even 1000 times more weight then the strongest man in the world. A short time ago a band of 9 men, women, and animals defeated a beast that threatened the existence of earth. It had the Zohar Modifier trapped inside of it, and when the modifier was let free, 8 of these peoples' gears stopped, and the contact's pressed on. The reason none of the gears moved is because they did not receive power from the Zohar Modifier anymore, but since the contact's gear fulfilled his duty and made contact with the Zohar, his gear was able to move. Soon after, a great man invented the steam engine. They were improved and now power gears.
The boy walked into a bar, and with mixed feelings about the bartender, he asked for some water.
"What's wrong boy? You parents are scared stiff! Why'd you run off into the forest like that? Go home!" the bartender commanded.
Reluctantly, the boy asked, "Sir, I'm not sure if you know me, but, where is my home? I believe I do not know this place."
"Are you ill, Jurobei? Have you bumped your head? Jurobei?" the bartender say, frantically, and Jurobei passed out on the floor.
Jurobei, you are alpha and omega
You are the beginning and the end
You are the first and the last
Use your power wisely, as you must venture on
A war between two nations will start
Many will die
Go out and find the Mother
Go and find this last hope, Jurobei…
"Jurobei, Jurobei? Jurobei!"
"Y-yeah? Who's there?" Jurobei asked, still very tired.
"It's me silly, who'd you think it was?" said a girl, about Jayhu's age. "You know, me, Sumiko!"
"Oh yeah!" It all came back to the boy, as if something let it to him. He was Jurobei Wong; a 14-year old boy who lived in Dazil with a girl named Sumiko Ichiyusai. The two of them had lived together ever since both of their parents died. They bonded because of like troubles and have stuck it out ever since those sad times.
"I think I must be going," Jurobei said, in a sad monotone.
Quickly, Sumiko responded, "Where to?"
"Far away, to a place few have been, to find a certain someone, and to do a certain thing. The details aren't clear yet, but I'm sure I'll find out what. But I can't leave yet, too many things to say bye to or to settle," Jurobei said, without a hesitant word. He knew his mission, but not how to start it. He knew whom he was going to meet, but not by name, he knew where he was going to, but not its location.
"Well, wherever you are going, I'm coming too. Don't even try to stop me. We've been together through thick and thin, and I guess you could call me your sister. Plus, I can defend myself, and I'm no wimp! Lemme come along or I'll never ever trust you! NEVER AGAIN!" Sumiko whined, but Jurobei knew she'd come, even if he didn't like it. He told her she could, and was then amazed at how excited she was.
"We are going to travel the desert and head to the Aveh nation, hopefully we can find some help there, and some direction," Jurobei stated,
"Sounds good to me, let me just go get my staff," Sumiko replied, a bit calmer. They slept that night, and woke in the aurora, rested and ready to go. Jurobei retrieved his studded leather gloves, a week's worth of the provisions, and lots of water. Sumiko sold everything else to buy a buggy and water. They set out, not knowing what was ahead, what they were to meet, and where they were going after Aveh. Jurobei was somewhat abashed, and Sumiko didn't seem to care. It was a pleasant trip, until he showed up. It was his entire fault so many people died, it is his entire fault so many people do die, and it'll be his entire fault that someone dies too soon.
"Doth thou desire the power?" the masked man asked.
"What? Me? Power?" Jurobei staggered.
"Doth thou desire the power?" the masked man repeated.
"N-no…" Jurobei spat out. Being frightened, he raised his fists, ready to defend himself however he could.
"Thou hast superficial power!" the masked man exclaimed.
"Superficial?" Jurobei queried.
"Now do you think you can win?" the masked man asked, seeming to enjoy the terror he struck upon Sumiko and Jurobei.
"GO AWAY!" screamed Sumiko, flowing with fright.
"What? How dare you talk to me like that!" the masked man yelled. He then gathered two ball of chi into his hands and fired them at Sumiko. She was hit dead on and was blown through the back of the buggy. Jurobei rushed to her aid. He did whatever he could until this man had two wolves attack the poor kid. Jurobei run to one of the wolves and head-butted it, then spun backwards and came back with a powerful punch, knocking one of the two animals senseless. The other wolf jumped onto Jurobei, slashing at him. Jurobei manages to kick the fierce beast off of him. He tuned his energy into one single ball of chi, and fired it at the animal. That blast knocked it out. He had won the battle.
"Weak…pathetic…inexcusable," the masked man stated.
"YOU BEAST! YOU MONSTER! WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO SUMIKO?" Jurobei screamed. The mix of anger, hate, and fear was too miscible for him. He lunged at the monster, swinging full force. The man easily dodged the attack, and kneed Jurobei in the gut, easily putting him out of commission.
"Wh-who are you?" Jurobei asked, gasping for air.
"I am Grahf, the seeker of power," Grahf stated. He looked down upon Jurobei, cowering and bleeding. "You are a weak, primitive being. Gain your power; go on your quest. When you are ripe, you power will be mine!" Grahf said, then faded away.
"D-damn, oh no! SUMIKO!" he yelped, then ran over to her. She was in bad shape, her left cheek was torn up and bleeding excessively, her right arm had a large piece of shrapnel in it and a large gash on her leg was also bleeding excessively.
Sumiko managed to sputter, "H-help me…Jurob…Juro…Jurobei." Her poor body struggling to hold onto life itself, Jurobei tried giving her his final aquasol, but it didn't help. He picked her up and started off to Aveh, he knew that a city doctor was her only hope. The drove on for hours, Sumiko's near lifeless body falling even closer to death. Jurobei was worrying badly. He didn't know what to do, so he tried to comfort her his best. They finally arrived at Bledavik, the capitol of Aveh, in early morning. Shopkeepers were just opening up and the inn's doors opened. Jurobei rushed up to the nearest person, who was a monster parts trader, and asked him, "Where can I get help for my sister?"
"Huh? Oh wow, she's in bad shape, uh, follow me," The merchant said, and rushed into a door. "Doctor! Doctor! This girl is almost dead, help her!"
"What seems to be the, oh my gosh! Get her in the revitalization pod immediately!" the doctor shouted. Her voice was soft, yet filled with anxiety. Much time passed, and Jurobei sat there, totally still, watching over Sumiko. The doctor paced, then looked up when she heard the beep.
"She's going to be alright. She's still in critical condition, but we can handle it now," the doctor stated, and a smile came over Jurobei and the doctor's face. "My name is Kimiko Black, and who might you two be?"
"Hello, I'm so grateful, my name is Jurobei Wong and this is Sumiko Ichiyusai. We are like sisters, since both of our parents were killed; we kinda stuck it out together. Wait, did you say Black? As in Billy Lee Black?"
"Why yes, how do you know about him?" asked the doctor, somewhat startled by the fact he knew one of her ancestors.
"I'm not sure but I feel like I've met him before. He was an -Etone- for the evil Solarian empire, he always wore his -Ethos- attire and had gray hair even at a young age, correct?" inquired Jurobei. He knew he was right, but he felt it was necessary to ask.
"That's impossible! How could you know him so well?" questioned the, now curious, doctor.
"I don't know, I just have this clear recollection of him. He also bore twin handguns, a shotgun, and an ethergun. He road in the Renmazuo gear, which he fought against a great evil with, well, it seems to be someone like me!" exclaimed Jurobei.
"Now that I think about it, there is a man that looks nearly identical to you in the picture I have of my ancestor and his friends! The man's name was…" said Kimiko, but was interrupted by Jurobei.
"…Fei Fong Wong." Kimiko completed her final sentence. Kimiko was astonished. She had never seen a boy so young know so much.
"What were you doing before she was hurt?" Dr. Black asked, before they could pry further into each other's pasts.
"I was on a journey, and she tagged along. I was dreaming and a voice told me to find someone, somewhere, and find something, somewhere. She tagged along. I was confronted by a man in a mask that asked me, 'Doth thou desire the power?', and after a long conversation, he became enraged, and shot Sumiko with some strange energy which messed her up badly. I'm surprised I came out of there alive," Jurobei voiced. "What about you? Have anything special to say?" Jurobei asked.
"Well, other then being Billy Lee Black's granddaughter, I'm handy in his ways of marksmanship. I modified his Ethergun so it still fires magical shells," Doctor Black stated, and showed Jurobei her rifle, "Pretty neat, no?"
"Yes, very, actually. I was wondering, do you have nay family left?" Jurobei asked, trying not to seem too pushy.
"Well, now that you mention it, no. I don't. I hope you don't mind, but I'm coming with you. My apprentice is my only real family, and he's quite fine at his work now. He should be able to handle Bledavik if no one manages to get on Fatima's nerves," said Kimiko, then giggled a bit. Jurobei laughed too, and Sumiko's eye peeked open.
"Hu-, huh?" spat Sumiko, gasping for air. "Where…am…I?"
"You're in Bledavik, you're going to be fine," Jurobei said, comforting her.
"Who was that jackass?" she asked, now infuriated.
"That was Grahf-," said Jurobei, but was cut off by Kimiko.
"Did you day Grahf?" exclaimed Kimiko. "The seeker of power?"
"Why, yes, how do you know?" asked Juobei.
"No time, we must leave immediately," stated Kimiko. "She'll be fine if we ride in Renmazuo."
