We were the home team, so the Wizards batted first. With one game under their belts already, they came out swinging and picked up three quick runs. We quickly shook the cobwebs off and began to answer back. AJ singled but was forced out, while Pete made it safely to first. Tim doubled and moved Pete over to third. Ali hit a double that brought in Pete and Tim. An RBI single from Rick scored Ali and we ended the inning tied at 3.
The second inning was a quick one, with both sides unable to mount any offense.
Inning three saw us blank the Wizards once again, and we added 1 more run to our total on successive singles by Bob (forced at third), Jimmy, AJ, and Pete. We were now ahead 4-3.
In the top of the fourth, the Wizards retaliated and scored three runs to retake the lead. Ali and Pete started us off with a pair of singles to give us runners on first and second. John D. singled to bring in Ali, and then Marc knocked in Pete with a single. We had tied the game up at 6 apiece.
With the storm rapidly approaching, the Wizards reached into their bag of tricks to score 3 more runs. It was clear that time was quickly running out and we wasted none of it, loading the bases on back-to-back-to-back singles by Jimmy, AJ, and Pete. Ali was up next and launched a deep ball into the outfield for a clutch grand slam! Rick added a lone single before the third out was made, but with thunder and lightning upon us, the game was called at the end of five innings. The final score was 10-9. Officially, this game will be ruled a forfeit, as one of the Wizards disappearing half-way through the game and leaving them with only seven players, but it sure felt like a sweet win! Thanks to everyone that did time behind the plate for their side. Offensive honors for the game go to AJ, Pete, Ali, and Rick (3-3), and Jimmy (2-3). Mound duties were handled admirably by Kathy.
