There's not going to be much of a write-up this week as there just isn't too much to write about. Eleven of us gathered at the HO2 field to take on the Translucents, who seemed to be angling to be bumped up into the C-League. They picked up a quick (although it didn't seem quick to us at the time, I guess) 10 runs in the first inning, invoking the "mercy rule", and didn't look back. They continued to chip away at us with a run here, two runs there. We picked up one lone run in the fourth on a double by Tony and a single from Jimmy. The final score was 19-1.

These guys clearly belong in another league, given the relative youth of the team, the strength of their batting order, their fielding ability, and more than anything, their aggressiveness on the basepaths. They were out to take every base they could and force every throw, even when they had a commanding lead. That type of play might be fine for the A and C leagues, but in the D league, it just makes for poor sportsmanship. It'll be interesting to see if other coaches end up with the same impressions.

I don't like to end on a negative note, so let me just say... at least the weather was nice! ;-) This game saw the return of John Wagner to the field (welcome back, John!) and we hope to see more of him. John A. pitched a fine game with Bob catching. Thanks to Melanie for keeping score and to the Desai family (Deval, Nisha, and Nirvi) who came out to cheer on their dad.

After the game, the team gathered around the cooler to lick their wounds and grab a beer. Then a small gang of us rushed to Palumbo's for some pizza. A great time as always.
