Well, the games are coming fast and furious now as we attempt to get this season completed before the first snow. Fresh from our Thursday victory we were right back at it last night against “NVA Nads” looking to make it two in a row. A total of 11 Insult’ers arrived for the contest, including debut games for Karen and Mike. With rain threatening the competition from the start, we warmed up and got under way quickly. We were the Visiting team for this contest so we got to bat first. For those of you who couldn’t be with us, here’s how it went.

Having established ourselves recently as an offensive power, we wanted to show them our talents in that area quickly. Jim opened the game for us with a triple. Bob F. followed with a double. Rob followed Bob with a single and Billy Masson singled. John A. singled and Mike homered in his first at-bat with the team. Zarah singled and we had 6 runs to start the contest. On defense, we started somewhat slowly but eventually settled down, getting them out after scoring 3 runs. So we had the early lead, 6 – 3.

MJ opened the second inning for us with a single. Bob F. changed places with MJ on a Fielder’s Choice but that was all the offense we could muster, so we grabbed our gloves and headed back to the defense. We didn’t stay there long, however, putting them away quickly and not allowing any scoring. So, after 2 innings, we still had our 6 – 3 lead.

Billy Masson opened the third for us with a single, followed by a double from John A. and singles from Karen and Mike. Good base running netted us 3 runs from these four hits. On defense, we were operating smoothly, denying them any scoring and we took a 6-run lead to the 4th, 9 – 3.

Jim singled to open the 4th for us, followed by singles from Bob F. and Rob and then a long homer by Billy Masson, and we had 4 more runs quickly. But we weren’t done yet. John A. singled. Karen doubled, and Mike emptied the bases again with his second homer of the game. Zarah followed with a single but was left stranded. It was 7 more for our side, though, and the game was becoming one-sided. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, I think, they worked real hard in the bottom of the inning, managing to get 5 runs to cut into our lead some. But our score doubled theirs and we headed to the 5th with a big lead at 16 – 8.

The rain started to pick up by the 5th but it didn’t seem to affect our offense. MJ started it with a single. Jim, Bob F. and Rob then hit back-to-back-to-back doubles, followed by Billy Masson’s second homer of the game and Insult’ers were flying around the bases. When all this activity subsided John A. started the offense again with a double, followed by Mike’s third homer of the game. We had scored 7 more runs and they knew they were beaten. They couldn’t muster any offense in the bottom of the inning and, with a 15-run lead, they asked if the 6th could be the final inning because it was raining. We graciously agreed.

Just to let them know that we never quit, MJ started us again in the 6th with a double, followed by a double from Jim and singles from Bob F., Rob, John A. and Karen to give us 4 more runs. They had nothing left in the bottom of the 6th and the game ended in another huge victory for our side. The final score was 27 – 8 as our offensive onslaught continues.

Victories are fun, and Insult’ers were smiling through most of this one. Offensive honors for this game go to John A. who went 5 for 5, to Jim, Bob F., Rob, Billy Masson, Karen and Mike who all went 4 for 5, And to MJ who went 3 for 4. John A. deftly pitched the entire game. Bob O. handled the duties behind the plate, with one put-out on a throw from Jim. Special thanks to Jo Larson for handling the scoring duties, and to John Devaney for coaching third base for the game. In addition to John, the newly engaged Melanie cheered for the team, as did Zarah’s international fan club.

After the game a happy team headed to the cooler for some refreshment, And then a very large group of players and fans headed to Palumbo’s for Some pizza and beer. A great time as always.

With 2 victories in a row, we’ve now started the winning streak that should only end when we run out of games to play.
