Those Guys wasted no time in getting runs on the board, as they four team members cross home plate in the first inning. Shannon kicked off our retaliation with a single. Jimmy followed him with a double that was deep enough to bring Shannon in. John A. singled moving Jimmy over to third and then Lisa singled him in. At the end of one, we were down 4-2.
The second inning saw our opponents pick up three more runs while we went three-up, three-down. We were now behind 7-2.
We turned the tide a bit in the third inning, allowing only one run and beginning to crank up our offense. Shannon led off with a single and managed to score from first on a single by John A. Sammy singled to put runners on first and second and then Kathy singled, loading the bases. Bob singled next, scoring John A. and Sammy and then Rob doubled which brought in Bob and Kathy. The inning ended with 5 more runs for us and we were now trailing by only one at 8-7.
We gave up another run in the top of the fourth and then got it back. Jimmy doubled for the inning's first hit and was brought home on a single by Lisa. Sammy singled as well, but we left them both stranded and went back in the field still behind by one at 9-8.
Two "Guys" (didn't they go out of business?) scored in the fifth. Then it was our turn. Bob was up first and doubled. Rob doubled on his turn at the plate, bringing Bob in. Sharon ripped a double which got Rob home. Shannon was up next and blasted a triple to get Sharon in and then Jimmy smacked his own triple knocking in Shannon. After an RBI single from Lisa, we were done, but we had racked up 5 runs to surge ahead, and now lead the game 13-11.
We slammed the door in their faces in the sixth when we held them scoreless, and continued to add to the offensive punishment. Rob got our first hit of the inning - a single. Singles followed from Sharon and Shannon, loading the bases for our cleanup hitter, Jimmy. Not one to miss an opportunity, Jimmy belted his second triple and brought in three runs. John A. hit a single which scored Jimmy and the inning ended with us on top 17-11.
Those Guys picked up one quick run in the top of the seventh, but our defense held tight and the game ended with Final Insult picking up its third win of the season - 17-12.
Pitching duties were handled admirably by Kathy with Bob catching. Offensive honors for the game go to Jimmy and Shannon who both went 4-5. Thanks to Scorekeeper Melanie and to Nisha, our Super Fan In Training.
After the game a small group of Insult'ers went for pizza and beer (and rest) at Palumbo's. A great time as always.
