"You say history considers me dead. Who am I to
argue with history?"
James Kirk, Star Trek Generations

Star Trek premiered on 8 September 1966. Since that fateful day,
it has evolved into a multimedia franchise which remains
unrivalled in any field.

Across more than 35 years, Star Trek has moved from its genesis
as a twinkle in the eye of an ex-Navy pilot and police officer to world
domination. It gives us a picture of a future where humanity has
outgrown its greed and waging of war and spreads peace and
knowledge through the galaxy.

This is Star Trek's story, from the letter-writing campaigns that kept
the original series on air to the movies and spin off series to the
continuing speculation about the franchise's future.  It is the story
of an unparalleled phenomenon.
