Resumption of Peace Talks: GRP-NDFP
During her SONA, Mrs. GMA boasted she would resume Peace Talks with NDFP. With only less than a year left for her term to end she was assuring that peace could be reached with NDFP. This amidst the constant crisis of her administration, this amidst the ever piling up of unresolved issues and political scandals involving her family, her fraudalent re-election ( "hello Garci" ), the NBN-ZTE deal, political killings, Cha-cha/ConAss, the recent expose by a Fil-Am volunteer who was abducted and tortured by allegedly military personnel and Mrs. Arroyo's machinations to hold power beyond 2010. Just like the other promises she made in her previous SONA's, her supposed desire to re-open talks with NDFP will likely to fall as a mere SONA prop. That is, her sincerity ( not to mention her ability and integrity) is highly questionable.
Worth noting is the fact that previous attempts for peacetalks under her administration failed, owing to her inability as a sincere negotiator - while she says and promises good things she ends up doing the contrary. In gesture of good faith, the other side of the negotiating table honored its commitment in the previous peacetalks but only to be lured into a trap in the form of surveillance, harassment, abduction and killings. When she went to USA to meet with Obama she was quick in accepting the position of the Philippines as America's anti-terror coordinator in East Asia. One must also remember that Oplan Bantay Laya is still operational and who knows this late plan for a peacetalk is part of a futile design to deliver heavy blows both in deceptive propaganda and who knows what might come as intensive and extensive military campaign of attrition and annihilation for who knows at present she will abdicate the highest political power as the term limit of presidency is fast approaching. One must recall that she vowed to end "insurgency" in 2010 or beyond.
With regards to her seeming confidence that �she will not be a lame duck president� one can be sure for a moment that USA has her back ( or ass) covered after she showed support to all US foreign policies and as Obama remains deaf and blind about Arroyo�s real image to the Filipino people, so long as she stays as most trustworthy American ally in comparison to opposition political leaders in the country.
Certainy, GRP has been for more than thirty years at war with NDFP with the latter ever becoming belligerent territorially with more than 73 provinces covered in the NDFP�s revolutionary organs of political power. GRP�s AFP has been wanting to dismantle this territorial belligerency of the least diminish this into containable sporadic forces stripped of their unified warring capability in conducting in the national scale, a people�s war with clear strategic line and military objective of gaining victories for the national democratic revolution. Who knows this ( that is to dismantle to greater extent in national scale the revolutionary movement)is also GMA�s not yet realized militaristic aspiration to help her put her supposed �strong republic� could it be beyond 2010.
