                                  "The 5th Commandment"
                              Written by Joseph D. Blackerby

               EXT. ROAD/EMBANKMENT - NIGHT

Smoke rises from Fowler's car, overturned on the side of the
highway embankment. There is only silence until -- a GROAN.

FOWLER (Edward Burns) crawls out from underneath the car.
Blood trickles down from a gash on the side of his head. His
breath shoots out steam in the chilly night. He circles
around the other side of the car.

He bends down -- sees PENNY (Sherilyn Fenn) hanging from her
seatbelt. He quickly unbuckles her and catches her before
she hits the ground. Checks her over for injuries --

                                   FOWLER
Penny? C'mon honey, you need to
                         wake up.

Penny comes to, holding her head.

                                   PENNY
                         What happened?

                                   FOWLER
                         We crashed. Really well too.
                         Shame you missed it.

               Penny manages a weak smile.

                                   FOWLER
Whatever that thing was, chased us
off the road and it's probably
still out there. Can you walk?

He helps Penny to her feet. She grimaces when her left foot
               hits the ground.

                                   PENNY
                         My ankle...

                                   FOWLER
                         I'll help you. C'mon.

                                   PENNY
                         I dunno if I can.

There's a loud monstrous SHRIEK in the distance. She locks
               her eyes back with Fowler's.

                                   PENNY
                         I'll try.

She limps along as Fowler helps. The SHRIEKING gets closer
               and closer.

                                   FOWLER
We're not gonna outrun it. We need
                         a place to hide.

He looks around the open landscape. Not even a large tree.

                                   FOWLER
                         We're screwed.

Penny spots a dark SHAPE flying above them. She jerks back
and then Fowler sees it. He draws his gun. Fires. Pops off
several more shots. It doesn't have any effect.

                                   FOWLER
                         C'mon, we've gotta move!

He leads her down the side of the road, struggling to
maintain their balance. The creature is rapidly approaching.
Fowler turns -- comes face to face with pure evil. A black
face with burning yellow eyes and a mouthful of teeth. He
closes his eyes, prepares for the worst.

Penny's face changes -- goes from fear to fierce.

                                   PENNY
                         GO AWAY!!!

The creature WAILS. Penny's voice is louder than thunder.
It sends Fowler to the ground. A small SONIC WAVE spreads
out in a circle with Penny at the epicenter. The creature
HOWLS and disappears in a wisp of smoke.

Silence. Fowler picks himself off the ground and looks
around in awe. The pavement on the road has cracked and the
ground around is indented. All from Penny's voice. He looks
at her. She looks as confused as Fowler.

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - NIGHT

BANKS (Lake Bell) crouches silently in the corner of the
chamber, gun drawn -- barely able to breathe. Behind her,
the rocky figure of the angel-looking fossil seems to have
               its arms around her.

All is quiet. Way too quiet. She slides out from her hiding
place and pulls out her cell phone. Dials.
A faint BEEPING comes from the phone. No signal. Cursing
under her breath, she CREAKS open the door leading out of the
               vault into the library.

Peeks her head out. She can't see anything in the darkness.
But she doesn't hear anything. She takes another step.
Another. Still nothing. Her confidence builds.

Then Banks hears BREATHING. Deep and raspy. Right next to
her. She glances over into a mouthful of blackened sharp
teeth. She freezes -- unsure of what to do next. She slowly
takes a step back towards the vault. The creature lets out
               another raspy breath.

All hell breaks loose. Banks bolts for the door as something
hits her in the back hard. She flies through the chamber
door, crashing into a shelf of books, her back smoking like
it's just been burned. She collapses, unconscious.

EXT. WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - NIGHT

Fog seems to envelope the hotel, wispy arms wrapping
               themselves around it.

INT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - NIGHT

Bare and desolate. JAKE RIVKIN (Jared Padalecki) and KELSEY
(Ellen Page) hurry through the main doors. Jake looks
               alarmed at the emptiness.

                                   JAKE
                         Mom?

He's relieved to see BONNIE RIVKIN (Elizabeth Pena) walk out
               of the back room.

                                   BONNIE
Where have you two been? You're
over an hour late for curfew.

                                   JAKE
                         We've been looking for Agent
Fowler. Haven't been able to find
                         'em all night.

                                   BONNIE
Did you check with Sheriff Banks?

                                   JAKE
That's the first place we looked.
She's nowhere to be found either.

                                   BONNIE
                             (sly smile)
Maybe they don't want to be found.

                                   JAKE
                         Oh c'mon. Is Dad here?

                                   BONNIE
He left a little while ago. I
called out to him, but I guess he
didn't hear me. Seems lost in his
                         own world lately.

                                   JAKE
                             (to Kelsey)
Gotta check on something. Be right
                         back.

He hurries to the basement stairs and disappears down them.
Kelsey looks to Bonnie -- little bit of a silent, awkward
               moment.

                                   KELSEY
                         Sorry, we're late Mrs. Rivkin.

                                   BONNIE
Just so there's never any secrets
between us -- if you break his
heart, I have to come and bury you
                         alive.
                             (with a smile)
                         Mommy law.

                                   KELSEY
He'd have to break mine first.

Bonnie gives her a satisfied smile.

INT. BASEMENT - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - CONTINUOUS

Jake clumps down the stairs into the workshop area and starts
looking through the tools -- something to break open a door.
Finally, he pulls out a small crowbar and starts to go back
up the stairs when his eyes fall on Paul's workbench.

A small case lays open in the middle. Inside is a molded
holder for a curved knife. Jake looks it over, trying to
compute in his head what's going on. His face darkens.

EXT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - MOMENTS LATER

Jake hurries back into the lobby, takes Kelsey by the hand.

                                   JAKE
C'mon Kels -- we gotta go.

                                   KELSEY
                         What's going --

                                   JAKE
                         See ya Mom.

Before Bonnie can respond, Jake and Kelsey are gone.

               INT. DESTINY LIBRARY - NIGHT

Fowler enters the library, gun drawn. Penny follows closely
after. Lightning flashes through the windows lining the top
from a distant storm. Fowler keeps quiet as he circles the
bookshelves, listening for any kind of sound.

                                   PENNY
                         GRETCHEN??

Penny's voice shattering the silence makes Fowler jump.

                                   FOWLER
                         Don't DO that.

                                   PENNY
                         Why not?

                                   FOWLER
Big bad creatures ring a bell?

                                   PENNY
                         Sorry...

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - MOMENTS LATER

Fowler slowly opens the door to the chamber, takes a quick
look around the room. Doesn't see anything at first. He
               takes one more step inside.

WHAM! He gets clocked over the head and crumples to the
floor. Banks steps out of the shadows.

                                   BANKS
                         Oh my God. Fowler?

Fowler stumbles to his feet, holding his head.

                                   FOWLER
                         What the hell...did I miss
                         something?

                                   BANKS
                         I'm sorry -- I thought you were --

                                   FOWLER
I know, I know. God, I need some
                         aspirin.

He tries to steady himself, but falls back to the floor.

INT. EMBALMING ROOM - GRIMM'S FUNERAL HOME - DAY

A dark room with a single bright light over a lifeless male
body. FINNEAS GRIMM (Robert Englund) hovers over it, working
               with a slow, meticulous style.

                                   VOICE (O.S)
                         Good evening Mr. Grimm.

Grimm jolts back, revealing very big glasses, magnifying his
eyes. Reverend ROLAND CLEAVER (Lance Henrikson) steps out
               of the shadows.

                                   GRIMM
I didn't hear you come in Reverend.

                                   CLEAVER
                         I figure we're past the
                         formalities. I let myself in.

                                   GRIMM
Of course, of course. What can I
                         do for you?

                                   CLEAVER
You seem to have the pulse of this
                         town.

                                   GRIMM
                         Are you joking?

                                   CLEAVER
Tell me what you've heard about the
                         library.

               Grimm eyes him carefully.

                                   GRIMM
                         Ah, yes...the angel carving...

                                   CLEAVER
                         Is it just a carving?

                                   GRIMM
What do you believe it to be?

                                   CLEAVER
                         Does it matter?

                                   GRIMM
I would say it matters more than
                         any other question you could
possibly ask. Now if you'll excuse
                         me.

He bends back down over the body leaving Cleaver lost in
               thought.

EXT. DESTINY FBI OFFICE - DAY

Banks walks down the street and heads for the FBI office.
She's a little surprised to see Penny walking out. The two
just nod their heads -- not speaking. Somewhat awkward.
Banks then walks inside the office.

INT. DESTINY FBI OFFICE - DAY

Fowler leans back in his chair, ice pack on his head, eyes
closed. Banks sees it and immediately looks guilty.

                                   BANKS
Oh c'mon. Are you serious? I
didn't think I hit you that hard.

Fowler removes the ice pace to reveal a large lump on his
head, a white circle surrounded by a bright red ring.

                                   BANKS
Oh crap. Fowler, I am SO sorry
                         about that. I thought --

                                   FOWLER
You thought I was a monster.

                                   BANKS
                         Well...yeah. What were those
                         things?

                                   FOWLER
If I knew I'd be callin'
                         "Destination Truth" right now and
tell Josh Gates to get the hell out
                         here. I still might.

                                   BANKS
It wasn't random. They were after
                         us.

                                   FOWLER
That's the part that gets me. None
                         of this started happening until
                         that chamber was uncovered.

                                   BANKS
How did you even get away?

                                   FOWLER
Penny and I were in the diner --

                                   BANKS
                         Just Penny and you?

                                   FOWLER
                             (ignores the question)
It came after us there. We got
into the car, but it was too fast.
We crashed. It was coming back for
us when Penny -- something strange.
She yelled for it to go away. Her
voice was so loud -- like through a
                         speaker. But it vanished.

                                   BANKS
                         Her voice?

                                   FOWLER
                         Almost like she was...commanding
                         it.

INT. HALLWAY - DESTINY HIGH SCHOOL - DAY

Jake pulls books out of his locker, but he does it
robotically, lost in thought. He doesn't even notice Kelsey
               walk up.

                                   KELSEY
                         Jake? Are you okay?

                                   JAKE
Oh, hi. Sorry. Didn't get much
                         sleep last night.

                                   KELSEY
Did your Dad ever come home?

                                   JAKE
                         No.

                                   KELSEY
                         How long has it been?

                                   JAKE
                         Almost twenty-four hours. Mom's
worried sick. It's not like him.

                                   KELSEY
                         What're you gonna do?

                                   JAKE
Keep looking after school. And I'm
                         gonna stop my the church.

                                   KELSEY
                         The church?

                                   JAKE
Reverend Cleaver and Dad are into
                         something. Cleaver's part of this.
                         I know it.

                                   KELSEY
                         Want me to come?

                                   JAKE
                         No, it's okay.

                                   KELSEY
Are you sure? I'm worried about
                         you.

                                   JAKE
                         I'm fine.

                                   KELSEY
Your Dad may need your help, but
don't let him take you down with
                         him.

She kisses him tenderly and walks down the hall. Jake takes
a deep breath -- closes his locker door.

EXT. BLUE EYE CAFE - NIGHT

Penny locks up the cafe -- hurriedly jamming the keys into
her purse. She turns -- runs smack into Cleaver. She lets
out a YELP and drops her purse.

                                   CLEAVER
                         I'm so sorry Penny. I didn't mean
                         to startle you.

                                   PENNY
Oh hun, it's not you. My nerves
                         have been rattled all day.

                                   CLEAVER
                         Anything I can help with?

                                   PENNY
Got a prayer for a killer headache?

                                   CLEAVER
                         There's a prayer for everything.

                                   PENNY
No offense, but tonight I'm gonna
kneel at the alter of Aleve.

                                   CLEAVER
You have such a unique sense of
                         humor. I admire that. It's a
shame that we don't see more of you
                         down at the church.

                                   PENNY
Well, you know me. Always workin'.

                                   CLEAVER
I've heard rumors that you have a
                         quite a voice on you.

Penny looks alarmed. Does he know?

                                   PENNY
                         I'm sorry?

                                   CLEAVER
                         A singing voice. You'd make a
                         blessed addition to the choir.

Fowler turns the corner, approaching the diner and Penny
               exhales with relief.

                                   FOWLER
                             (coolly)
                         Evening Reverend.

                                   CLEAVER
                         Agent Fowler.

                                   FOWLER
                         You keeping my date company?

                                   CLEAVER
                         Date?

                                   FOWLER
                         Figure of speech.

                                   CLEAVER
Of course. I'll leave you to it
                         then.

He walks past them, never breaking eye contact with Fowler.
When he's around the corner --

                                   FOWLER
                         Awkward.

As they walk down the street, Cleaver peeks around the
corner, pulls out his cell phone and dials.

                                   CLEAVER
                             (into phone)
When you get this message, suspend
all other assignments. We have to
get it out of the library now.

He hangs up the phone and vanishes around the corner.

INT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - NIGHT

Jake walks into the lobby, finds it quiet -- deserted.

                                   JAKE
                         Mom? Hello?

No answer. He goes behind the front desk, looks over the
               desk for any clue.

BEHIND HIM -- a shadow advances out of the office. Jake
hears it -- turns. It's PAUL RIVKIN (Mandy Patinkin). His
eyes look tired and haggard. His clothes are wrinkled and
               dirty.

                                   JAKE
                         Dad? Where have you been?

                                   PAUL
Son. We need to have a talk.

Tucked into the back of his pants is the long curved knife.

INT. DESTINY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - NIGHT

Banks is seated at her desk, scrolling through a web page on
her computer. The topic is: ANGELS. DO THEY EXIST? The
page is full of old paintings depicting angels in a classical
style. Banks looks surprised to see Bonnie walk into the
               office.

                                   BANKS
                             (checks watch)
                         Bonnie? You okay?

                                   BONNIE
                         Is Paul here?

                                   BANKS
                         No. Should he be?

                                   BONNIE
He called me. Said he was going to
meet me here. He said it was
                         important.

                                   BANKS
                         I haven't heard from him.

Bonnie looks confused and tears form in her eyes.

                                   BANKS
                         Bonnie, what is it?

                                   BONNIE
Something is wrong with him. I
don't know what to do. He won't
                         talk to me.

               Banks embraces her, reassuring.

                                   BANKS
Look, I'm sure everything will be
fine. I'll call Agent Fowler and
                         see if he's heard anything.

INT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - NIGHT

Paul stands in the office doorway looking at Jake by the
front desk. His gaze is dark and Jake can sense the menace
               in his voice.

                                   PAUL
You've been asking a lot of
                         questions lately. A lot of
                         questions that have raised
                         attention from all the wrong
                         people.

                                   JAKE
So you know what's going on.
You're involved in it, aren't you?

                                   PAUL
                         It's...complicated.

                                   JAKE
                         Actually I think it's pretty
                         simple.

                                   PAUL
You don't know what you're talking
                         about.

                                   JAKE
Then tell me. Because something is
                         happening in this town that's
                         really big. People are taking
                         sides --

                                   PAUL
                         That's exactly right.

                                   JAKE
                         Dad, what are you into?

                                   PAUL
Something that I can't back out of.

He reaches behind him and brandishes the knife, its curved
               blade gleaming.

                                   JAKE
                         Dad...

                                   PAUL
                         I'm sorry son. There's nothing
more I can do to protect you.

With surprising speed, he lunges forward towards Jake, knife
raised. Jake leaps and rolls over the front desk to avoid
the attack, landing hard on the other side. The phone falls
off the desk, the receiver separating from the cradle.

INT. DESTINY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Banks hangs up her phone, frowning.

                                   BANKS
                         Fowler hasn't heard anything
either. He's gonna head over to the
                         hotel and check things out.

Bonnie uses her cell phone speed dial to call the Weeping
Willow. She gets a busy signal. Her face darkens.

                                   BONNIE
                         Busy...something's wrong. We need
                         to go.

                                   BANKS
                         I was afraid of that...

Banks grabs her keys and they hurry out.

INT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - CONTINUOUS

Paul circles the front desk as Jake picks himself off the
               floor.

                                   JAKE
                         Dad, what're you doing?

                                   PAUL
I'm sorry Jake, it has to be this
                         way.

He attacks again. Jake dodges a swipe and counters with a
hard punch, but Paul comes back and slashes Jake across the
arm. Jake falls back, clutching his arm as blood flows
               freely down.

                                   JAKE
                         Dad, please!

Paul can't control his emotions anymore. He struggles to see
as tears stream down his face.

                                   PAUL
I have no choice. He told me --

                                   JAKE
                         He? You're talking about Reverend
                         Cleaver, aren't you?
                             (after no answer)
Cleaver told you to do this? To
                         kill your own son?

                                   PAUL
                         You don't understand. There are
sides chosen. A war is coming.

He attacks again. Jake grabs a chair and swings it strongly.
It catches Paul in the shoulder and face, sending him to the
               floor.

                                   JAKE
                         WHAT DOES IT MATTER?

                                   PAUL
                         You've chosen your side.

                                   JAKE
                         I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE
                         TALKIN' ABOUT!

                                   PAUL
                         It's fate...

Paul lashes out with surprising speed -- sweeps Jake off his
feet. Jake falls heavily to the floor -- wind knocked out of
him. Paul quickly pins him down, readies the knife. But
then he locks eyes with his scared son. He closes his eyes,
tears still streaming down. His hand trembles. He raises
               the knife up --

                                   PAUL
                         NOOOOOOO!!!

He brings the knife across his own throat, cutting deeply.
Jake's face is splattered with his father's blood. Paul
falls on his back, blood spilling from his neck. He's
gasping for air. He struggles to talk.

                                   JAKE
                         Dad...

Paul shakes his head, barely gets the words out.

                                   PAUL
                         Don't...don't mourn me.
                         Don't...don't deserve it...

He tries to continue talking, but his voice is giving out to
soft whispers. Jake leans in close as his father tells him
               his dying words.

EXT. WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - CONTINUOUS

Banks and Bonnie leap out of their car just as Fowler
arrives. Fowler draws his gun and leads them into --

INT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - CONTINUOUS

Fowler bursts in to find Jake huddling on the floor next to
Paul, who lays still in a large pool of blood.

Bonnie rushes in behind and sees the grisly scene. She falls
to her knees, crying hysterically and Jake runs to her. He
holds her tight as she sobs.

Fowler investigates Paul's body and shakes his head in
               disbelief.

                                   FOWLER
                         What happened here?

                                   JAKE
                         He killed himself...just...did it.

                                   FOWLER
                         Do you know why?

               Jake shakes his head.

                                   JAKE
He told me something though. Said
                         the angel was the key.

Banks and Fowler suddenly realize --

                                   FOWLER
                         I gotta get over there.

                                   BANKS
                         I'll stay here with them.

Fowler rushes out of the hotel.

               EXT. ROAD - NIGHT

Fowler swerves around corners at top speed, trying to get to
               the library.

INT. LOBBY - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - NIGHT

As Jake continues to hold Bonnie, Banks kneels down next to
Paul where she sees a blinking cell phone. She picks it up --
looks at the screen where it reads: 4 MISSED CALLS. She
looks at the display. All four calls came from Cleaver.

               INT. DESTINY LIBRARY - NIGHT

Fowler bursts into the library, barely checking to see if
he's alone. Heads right for the chamber --

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - CONTINUOUS

Fowler sprints down the stairs and stops suddenly -- Cleaver
               is standing there.

                                   FOWLER
                         What the hell --

                                   CLEAVER
                         Don't bother.

He points to the far side of the chamber. Where the massive
stone carving once was is a gaping hole. It's gone. The
               entire rock carving is gone.

                                   FOWLER
                         What did you --

                                   CLEAVER
It was gone when I arrived.

Both men stand in awe at the gaping hole in front of them.

               INT. DARK BASEMENT - NIGHT

Steady hands gently uses a brush to whisk dust off a rocky
surface. PULL BACK to reveal a DARK FIGURE working on the
angel carving, dusting it off with meticulous care. The
figure shuts off the light and walks out of the small
chamber. The figure walks up a narrow flight of stairs and
               passes a light to reveal.

               The face of Finneas Grimm.

                                                         FADE TO BLACK.
