               INT. DESTINY LIBRARY - NIGHT

A key turns in the lock of the darkened building. The
florescent lights flicker on. FOWLER (Edward Burns) and
BANKS (Lane Bell) walk into the silence.

Fowler speaks into his cell phone.

                                   FOWLER
                         Okay, we're in.

INT. DESTINY FBI OFFICE - NIGHT

JAKE (Jared Padelecki) sits at a computer wearing a headset.
He's reviewing the video surveillance footage from the
               library murder of Sam Blank.

                                   JAKE
Okay, the shelf's in the northwest
                         corner.

               INTERCUT WITH FOWLER AND BANKS

Fowler heads for the rear of the library with Banks close
               behind.

                                   BANKS
There's the wire. The camera must
                         be close.

She looks up at a corner section of ceiling and points to the
               small camera.

                                   BANKS
                         Pretty hi-tech setup for a
                         librarian.

                                   FOWLER
Must've charged a fortune in late
fees. Okay Jake, we're at the
                         shelf.

JAKE -- reviews the footage that shows Sam pulling on a book
in the middle of the shelf.

                                   JAKE
Okay, it looks like three down and
                         seven over from the right.

Fowler moves his hand along the books until he comes to the
one Jake specified. He tugs on it and the book comes
               completely out.

                                   FOWLER
                         Nope that's not it.

JAKE -- frowns and reviews the footage again.

                                   JAKE
                         Okay, maybe it's five over.

Fowler finds the book: Insert Book here. He pulls on it, but
it won't come all the way out.

                                   BANKS
                         Any luck?

                                   FOWLER
It won't come all the way out. I
think it's the lever, but it's not
                         doing anything.

                                   JAKE
                         Look for another switch. Something
                         close.

                                   FOWLER
But the tape didn't show anything
                         else.

Then he feels something under the bottom lip of the shelf.
His foot triggers a hidden switch and the hidden door swings
               open.

                                   FOWLER
Okay Jake, that got it. See if you
catch anything else on the footage.

He hangs up the cell phone and shines his flashlight down the
               revealed set of stairs.

                                   FOWLER
Do you want me to be chivalrous and
do the 'Ladies First' thing or
                         should I go?

                                   BANKS
No, no. You go right ahead.
                         Chivalry doesn't count when there's
                         a secret chamber involved.

Fowler grins and heads down the stairs.

INT. DESTINY FBI OFFICE - NIGHT

Jake leans back in his chair while watching the video
footage. As he yawns, he hears the bell ring as someone
walks in the door. He peeks around the corner.

It's KELSEY. (Ellen Page) Jake looks happy to see her.

                                   JAKE
                         What are ya doing here?

                                   KELSEY
Your mom said you might be over
                         here.

                                   JAKE
I'm just looking at a video feed
                         from the library.

                                   KELSEY
                         From Sam Guthrie's murder?

                                   JAKE
Yeah, how did you know --

                                   KELSEY
It's all over the town. Is it true
he was killed by book pages being
                         shoved down his throat?
                             (off Jake's nod)
Yeesh. Hey I forgot to tell you.
We had a bit of excitement the
other day. Our house got broken in
                         to.

                                   JAKE
                         You're kidding. Is everything
                         okay?

                                   KELSEY
Actually it's fine. They only had
time to ransack my room and part of
the living room. As far as we can
tell they didn't get away with
                         anything.

                                   JAKE
Your room? Why would they start
                         there?

                                   KELSEY
                         I dunno. Maybe figured the
teenager would have the best stuff.

               But Jake's not convinced.

                                   JAKE
                         Yeah...maybe.

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - NIGHT

A thin layer of dust hangs in the air as Fowler and Banks
make their way down a narrow hallway with rock walls.

                                   FOWLER
                         This tunnel wasn't done by
                         contractors. This took a while.

                                   BANKS
What I can't get around is what on
earth Sam would want to take this
                         much trouble to hide.

                                   FOWLER
Maybe this is the 'adult' section
                         of the library.

                                   BANKS
                         Smart ass. That's not funny.

The hallway opens up into a larger chamber. Fowler's light
reveals old file cabinets and dusty bookshelves all along the
walls. But then his eyes fall on something else --

                                   FOWLER
                         Will ya look at that...

He clicks a light switch and the room is flooded with light.
On the opposite wall is a large piece of rock with a plaster
               molding attached.

The molding is the impression of what looks like the
indentation of a human figure, with one difference:

The indentation shows the figure with fully formed wings. It
               looks like an angel.

                                   BANKS
                         Oh my God...

                                   FOWLER
                         That's an understatement.

INT. RIVKINS BEDROOM - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - MORNING

BONNIE (Elizabeth Pena) strides in, alert and cheerful. She
whips the curtains open letting a bright stream of sunlight
               in.

The light falls on PAUL'S (Mandy Patinkin) face. He squints
               and groans.

                                   BONNIE
Paul? What are you doing still in
                         bed?

                                   PAUL
                         What time is it?

                                   BONNIE
                         After ten.

                                   PAUL
                         Geez, you're kidding.

She puts a kind hand on his forehead.

                                   BONNIE
You don't feel like you have a
fever. But you don't look good.

                                   PAUL
My head -- it's killing me.

                                   BONNIE
I'll go down and get some aspirin.
                         You stay in bed.

                                   PAUL
                         Where's Jake?

                                   BONNIE
Still asleep. He was out late with
                         Agent Fowler.

This is like a bucket of cold water over his head. He jerks
               up to a sitting position.

                                   PAUL
                         What?

                                   BONNIE
I thought I told you. Jake was
                         helping with a computer problem.
Something of Sam's if I remember
                         right.

                                   PAUL
I don't want him hanging around
                         Fowler.

                                   BONNIE
Why not? He's a nice guy and Jake
                         was helping --

                                   PAUL
                         I just don't!

He whips his legs over the side of the bed and then holds his
head agony like it's in a vice.

                                   BONNIE
                             (concerned)
                         Paul?

                                   PAUL
I'm fine. Now get me the aspirin.

                                   BONNIE
Paul, maybe you should see a doctor
                         or --

                                   PAUL
                         JUST GET IT FOR ME!

Hurt and a little scared, Bonnie hurries out of the room.
Paul holds his head trying to make the pain go away.

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - DAY

As Banks flips through the files in the chamber, Fowler
inspects the plaster cast on the wall.

                                   FOWLER
                         This isn't sculpted. Whoever took
this cast thought it was genuine.

                                   BANKS
                             (from the book she reads)
It was found five years ago.
North of town right on the
                         outskirts. Look at this.

She hands him the book and points to a paragraph. He scans
               it quickly.

                                   FOWLER
                         A fallen angel?

                                   BANKS
                         That's what they thought.

                                   FOWLER
They? I thought we were talking
                         only about Sam Guthrie.

                                   BANKS
There's at least three other styles
of handwriting in this file alone.

                                   FOWLER
                         So this is another Illuminati
                         thing?

                                   BANKS
                         I don't think so. They're
                         referenced, but they talk about
                         them like they aren't related.

                                   FOWLER
You do realize that for a small
town, you have a lot of secret
clubs. I'm feeling a little left
                         out.

                                   BANKS
Maybe we should start our own. I
need some time with these books.
                         Catch up with you later?

                                   FOWLER
Just be careful. We still don't
know who killed Guthrie and why.

Banks nods and plops down in a dusty chair.

                                   FOWLER
You know, you almost look like
                         you're at home.

                                   BANKS
                             (grins)
                         I am.

EXT. DESTINY COMMUNITY CHURCH - DAY

REVEREND CLEAVER (Lance Henriksen) walks with Paul in a large
courtyard outside the church. Paul still looks like hell
with dark circles under his eyes.

                                   CLEAVER
                         Things are starting to get
                         complicated. Too complicated for
                         my liking.

                                   PAUL
Look, what we talked about -- I
                         can't do it.

                                   CLEAVER
You know the rules Paul. We take
care of our own. That's the way it
works. That's the way it's always
                         worked.

                                   PAUL
                         He's my son.

He suddenly convulses as a burst of pain hits him.

                                   CLEAVER
The pain -- it's almost unbearable,
isn't it? You know how to make it
                         go away, don't you Paul.

                                   PAUL
Please don't make me do this.

                                   CLEAVER
                         It's out of my hands. There's a
higher power at work and the
decision has been made. You took
an oath. Loyalty above all else --
                         including family.

Paul falls to his knees, holding his head. Cleaver kneels
               beside him.

                                   CLEAVER
I know how difficult it is. Trust
me. I know. But it gets better.
The guilt -- it goes away when you
see the bigger picture. I wasn't
                         always alone.

Cleaver and Paul lock eyes. It's obviously the first time
               Paul has heard this.

                                   PAUL
                         But how?

                                   CLEAVER
                         It's a choice Paul. That's all.
Jake has made his. Now you must
                         make yours.

He helps Paul to his feet.

                                   CLEAVER
Not to make your plate full, but
there's another problem to be dealt
                         with. Agent Fowler and Sheriff
                         Banks have found the chamber.

                                   PAUL
                         It was in the library?

                                   CLEAVER
And now they are getting involved
way too deeply for my liking. They
need to be taken care of. Tonight.
                         Summon them.

                                   PAUL
                         But -- are you sure?

                                   CLEAVER
Time is no longer a luxury.
                         Precautions are not a concern
                         anymore.

Paul nods and starts to walk away.

                                   CLEAVER
                         I'm counting on you Paul.

INT. DINING ROOM - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - DAY

Jake and Kelsey finish up a lunch of sandwiches. Bonnie
walks in to clear their plates.

                                   KELSEY
                         Thanks for lunch Mrs. Rivkin.

                                   BONNIE
                         I appreciate the respect Kelsey,
but that makes me feel so old.
                         Please call me Bonnie.

                                   JAKE
Maybe you wouldn't feel so old if
you listened to that old music.
It's way out of style Mom.

                                   BONNIE
Frank Sinatra never goes out of
style. Can you help me in the
                         kitchen for sec Jake?

                                   JAKE
                         Sure thing.
                             (kisses Kelsey quickly)
We'll meet up later, okay babe?

INT. KITCHEN - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - MOMENTS LATER

Jake helps Bonnie wash the lunch dishes. She looks desperate
to talk, but unsure of how to proceed.

                                   JAKE
You okay Mom? You look like you're
                         dying to say something.

                                   BONNIE
                         Have you noticed
                         anything...different about your
                         father lately?

                                   JAKE
                         What do you mean?

                                   BONNIE
                         His behavior. I don't know --
maybe it's me, but he seems a lot
                         more on edge lately.

                                   JAKE
                         I know.

                                   BONNIE
                         Do you know something? Jake,
                         what's going on?

                                   JAKE
                         I'm not sure. Yet.

                                   BONNIE
What are you not telling me? I've
got this feeling -- this knot in my
gut that something really bad is
                         about to happen.

                                   JAKE
It'll work out Mom. I promise.

Jake starts to leave, but Bonnie stops him.

                                   BONNIE
                         Why won't you tell me?

                                   JAKE
                         Because sometimes ignorance is the
                         best defense.

He kisses her cheek and walks out. Bonnie looks torn apart.

               INT. CAVERN PASSAGEWAY - NIGHT

Paul uses a flashlight to navigate down a long underground
corridor. He comes to an solid iron gate with a long lever
               attached.

There's a monstrous SCREAMING of multiple creatures behind
the gate. Paul closes his eyes -- pulls the lever.

The gate opens and in an instant, shadowy forms whip by and
are gone. The cavern is silent again.

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - NIGHT

Banks sits in the same chair we saw her in earlier,
completely engrossed in an old journal. A THUMP upstairs
               disrupts her trance.

Puzzled by the sound, she puts down the journal and walks to
the door. She listens quietly. Just as she's about to turn
               back -- another soft THUMP.

                                   BANKS
                         Hello?

No answer. She creeps out of the chamber into the passageway
               beyond.

INT. DESTINY LIBRARY - MOMENTS LATER

Banks emerges from the hidden passageway into the library.
She weaves through the book shelves to main entrance --
checks the door and finds it still locked.

She makes a quick check in between other shelves and finding
nothing, heads back for the chamber.

About halfway back, the florescent lights above flicker.
Then all at once, they all go out.

Banks goes on full alert -- draws her gun. She hears a heavy
RASPING coming from behind the bookshelf in front of her.
She backs away, trying hard to keep her calm.

The rasping turns into a loud inhuman SCREECH and she breaks
into a full run for the door.

Just before she reaches the entrance, a large CREATURE made
of shadows bursts out in front, blocking her escape.

She fires two rounds -- sees no effect and runs back inside
               the maze of the library.

Banks whips around corners and sprints down the bookshelf
corridors as books fly off the shelves around her. The
SCREECHING gets louder and more intense.

As she turns another corner, she sees the chamber entrance
still open. A bookshelf spills over, blocking her other way.
She has no choice and enters the passage.

INT. CHAMBER BENEATH LIBRARY - CONTINUOUS

Banks rushes down the passage with the creature right on her
tail. It darkens the space behind her as they go. She runs
through the chamber door -- realizes she's now trapped.

She turns, ready to face whatever evil is after her. The
creature starts through the door and suddenly stops! It
               SCREECHES in anger.

Banks is amazed. The creature keeps trying in frustration,
but there is an invisible barrier blocking it. In an
               instant, the creature VANISHES.

INT. BLUE EYE DINER - NIGHT

Fowler sits in the diner eating a sandwich. He watches the
last customer leave and swallows the last bite. PENNY
(Sherilyn Fenn) closes the register and walks over.

                                   FOWLER
Thanks Penny, that hit the spot. I
don't know what you put in there,
but it's becoming my new favorite.

                                   PENNY
Just some TLC 'hun. C'mon back, I
                         want to show you something.

Fowler follows her back into --

INT. KITCHEN - BLUE EYE DINER - CONTINUOUS

Penny leads Fowler back to the preparation table and turns to
               face him.

                                   FOWLER
                         What are you showing me?

                                   PENNY
                         You're lookin' at it.

She slides up on the preparation counter and brings Fowler
close. Their lips meet -- softly at first, but then they
               become hungry.

Fowler puts his arms around Penny and they kiss passionately.
Their embrace gets more intense when a NOISE interrupts them.

                                   FOWLER
                         What the hell was that?

                                   PENNY
                         Do you care?

He grins and kisses her again, but the NOISE sounds off again
from the dining area, this time much louder. Penny sighs.

                                   PENNY
                         Go check it out.

               Fowler steps out into --

INT. BLUE EYE DINER - CONTINUOUS

Fowler walks through the darkened dining area, checking
around every table. He doesn't see the large SHADOW whip by
               behind him.

Another NOISE makes him look back the other way. He starts
to take a step when the table in front of him flies up into
               the ceiling!

It crashes through the hanging ceiling tile and falls back to
the floor -- splintering apart. The large CREATURE made of
shadow rises in front of Fowler.

                                   FOWLER
                         Holy sh --

               He races back into --

INT. KITCHEN - BLUE EYE DINER - CONTINUOUS

Fowler bursts back through the door. Penny can see the panic
               on his face.

                                   PENNY
                         What's the matt --

                                   FOWLER
We need to get out here now! Out
                         the back door!

He pushes her towards the rear entrance to the diner.

                                   PENNY
                         What is going on?

The swinging door between the dining room and kitchen
suddenly flies off and she sees the shadow creature in the
doorway. She SCREAMS and follows Fowler out.

EXT. BACK PARKING LOT/STREET - CONTINUOUS

Fowler runs with Penny down an alley as the creature pursues.
He fires a few shots back with no effect. He pulls Penny
               down another back alley.

                                   FOWLER
My car's on the other side of this
building. If we can get to it --

                                   PENNY
                         Where are we going?

                                   FOWLER
                         Anywhere but here!

They round a corner as the creature lets out a loud SCREECH.
Fowler's car is directly in front of them. He quickly
unlocks the door and Penny dives in with him right behind.

Within seconds he has the engine started and he speeds away
just as the creature reaches them.

               INT./EXT. FOWLER'S CAR - CONTINUOUS

Fowler swerves a corner and checks behind him only to find
               the creature swooping after them.

                                   PENNY
What the hell is that thing?

                                   FOWLER
I'll let you know when I find out.
But it looks a lot like what killed
                         Sam Guthrie.

                                   PENNY
                         You never mentioned that before!

                                   FOWLER
Now is not the time Penny...

He speeds around another corner and floors the gas.

His car speeds through Downtown and heads out to winding
highway. The creature gets slightly ahead of him on Penny's
               side.

She looks out the window and sees a horrible shadowy FACE
staring at her. She screams as the creature moves in.

It SLAMS against the passenger side and rocks the car hard.
Fowler can't keep control and the car sails off the road down
               a steep embankment.

                                   FOWLER
                         HANG ON!

The car tears through trees and brush, finally flipping over
and tumbling down the side of the hill.

               It disappears into the darkness.

INT. BASEMENT - WEEPING WILLOW HOTEL - NIGHT

Paul sits at a small desk with a dim light hovering over it.
He can barely keep his head up with his hands -- he's a
               wreck.

He opens a small wooden case in front of him revealing a
               long, curvy dagger.

He looks to a framed photograph on the desk showing himself,
Bonnie and Jake smiling -- much better times.

With a shaky hand, Paul pulls the frame upside down on the
desk. He closes the case and turns off the light.

                                                         FADE TO BLACK.
