| Peechee Neric - Diary of a STAR .... to be |
| Click HERE to go to May 2003 - Part 2 (this is the good stuff) May 20, 2003 - A really, incredibly long day today. Got to see lots and lots of beautiful but fake women (breast wise). If you look on the web you'll see the synopsis of Miss Castaway. You'll see that it has tons of beauty pageant contestants - this is a horny man's dream job. Anyway, casting is straight off of looks here. Resumes are not even looked at. The director sees every extra we cast because he wants to hand pick them because he said that A LOT of people don't look anything like their headshots. So we call them in and if they are just like their h/s and they are beautiful and fit, they are in. Simple as that. Kinda sickening but for this film they need the looks more so than the talent. Plus they have celebrities who will be carrying the movie talent wise. So folks.. here's a note for you... LOOK LIKE YOUR HEADSHOT!!!!!! It's a big plus. May 19, 2003 - Went to my audition and did EXCELLENT. I know I impressed the producers because I asked them about their 2 films. They were pleased and embarrased at the same time, that I knew about the films. So I know I made a lasting impression on them whether I get the part or not. I may have been good, but maybe I didn't have the look they wanted for that role. We'll see. Went to my intern job with Miss Castaway with director, Bryan Michael Stoller. I was placed in casting and product placement. Incredibly fascinating to see how the other side of the filming works before production. Every actor should try it once just to see what it really takes to create a film - you'll have more respect for your acting than before. Although that was informative, the only thing that really bugged me was that they made me run errands with MY car to drop off stuff. I don't mind that, but they didn't even offer to give me gas money - and I'm struggling out here. I don't mind donating my time, but not money too. I just can't afford that. Plus another bad side is that they don't even feed me. Granted it's a low budget movie, but I'm giving my time for free here... a little sandwich would have been appreciated very much. It was a long day. I'm tired. May 16, 2003 - Stayed busy on the computer fixing this website, as well as my resume website. Contacted lots of people to spread the word on my diary. Received my sides today for the audition on Monday. I have a lot of researching to do over the weekend for this audition as I need to be up on current events for the Philippines. Forgot to mention that this past Wednesday, an actor friend of mine was supposed to stay with me for 2 weeks because he landed a role on a Star Trek pilot. But at the last minute, the productions company called him and said the production was put on hold and they'll get back to him soon. Typical stuff. Things change very quickly in this industry. May 15, 2003 - I got the call from the Production Manager for Miss Castaway. I'm so excited. I start next week right after my audition. I can't wait. Today, I also met up with the writer/director/producer of "Now Chinatown". We discussed ways to market his movie. The movie is already in Best Buy and Blockbuster but he wants more exposure. He offered to give me commission on any sales of the DVD. Check out the site: www.nowchinatown.com I've seen the movie and it is pretty good. NO... I'm not saying that so that you'll go buy it. However, if you are interested, please contact me so I can earn a little something. This starving artist needs help!!! So contact me at peecheeneric@aol.com and let me know. May 14, 2003 - What a great day! I got a call to audition for a tv talk show host. I audition on Monday. I also received a referral/contact from my marketing manager to be an intern on an upcoming movie called Miss Castaway. It stars Michael Jackson and Jerry Lewis, plus more. They need help building a set - and they are designing it on Michael's estate. Is that cool or what? I called and left a message. Hope they call. Went to another seminar today and again was awesome. I met 2 producers - Joel Colman and Don Glutz. Check them out on IMDB.com to see what they've done - too much!!! Got to give them my h/r and was able to even speak to them briefly after the seminar. Joel is an acting coach too with a good reputation. Yeah! I found my coach!!!! I also got to submit my h/r to another guy who is producing his own film off of a published book he wrote. This was a very productive day! May 13, 2003 - Not much today. Had to do personal stuff. Got my car insurance - it's cheaper here than in DC area (surprisingly). Tried to get my driver's license changed but I need my birth certificate. Guess they are really strict here about that because of illegals. They want proof. Kinda sad! May 11, 2003 - Signed on with a Marketing Manger - one of the best in the town. He's a great talker and a wonderful person. I think he can really help to open doors for me. Say a prayer! May 10, 2003 - GOT FIRED!!! Ok. It's probably more like a fire/quit situation. The vp of the company called me and said that he can't have me as a newcomer taking off for an audition. Funny because when I took the job I was told they were actor friendly. Anyway, the guy gave me an option. Either I go to the audition and not work for them anymore OR come into work and have a great working relationship with them. Well, if he won't let me go to my audition now, he probably won't let me go the next time. Plus, I came to CA for acting, not to work as one of his worker bees. I could have done a job like that back East. So I said I'm doing the audition. And that was that. May 9, 2003 - Had an interview/meeting with a Marketing Manager to see where he can take me. Also had another meeting with 3 other producers. One is a distributor. Basically we just sat there for 4 hours and discussed everything about film and even came up with a new way to create a film. All we need now is a good script to get it going. May 8, 2003 - BackStage came out today. Picked that up and did some self-marketing. Took all day getting all the cover letters and h/r together to send out. Got an audition/interview call for this Saturday for a reality tv show. Called my office and found replacements (actually 2 people) to cover the hours I won't be there. Office Manager don't sound too keen on the idea but hey! It's an audition and I got my shift covered. May 7, 2003 - Went to a seminar recommended by a friend. The seminar was on the 8th floor and the elevator had just broken down. I had to climb 8 flights of stairs to get there. Took me a while but I got there. Man! I need to exercise more. Anyway, it cost me $15.00 but I got to meet 2 producers - Bill Hooey and Jim Donzella. Now that was so much fun - especially Bill Hooey! The guys has produced over 200 informercials and up on the stage, he's a comedian. I had a great time. And hey! I got to eat pizza and have soda during break - all part of the $15.00. What a deal. Have dinner and meet producers. And I mean meet them... I got to speak to them afterwards. It was really cool! May 6, 2003 - Basically just searched the internet for casting notices. Submitted myself to a few of them. May 4, 2003 - Had to work today. What a bummer! But after work I went to a seminar. Not too many people there but the speaker was fantastic. I didn't realize that being sag-eligible, I am able to put SAG on my resume when submitting for SAG roles... and I CAN submit for SAG roles. That was cool! Made a few contacts with other actors. Most of the actors here are not friendly at all. I guess they see you as competition for them. Which is sad as I am a great person to know. I love to share any knowledge I have and try to help people out in the industry. Too bad they never took the class I took with Brenna McDonough back East. She taught me so much but the one thing that always stands out in my head is..."There is always a part for me, but not ALL parts are for me." That was fantastic. It's true... I can't have all the parts. So I don't see other actors as competition. If anything, they could be my friends who could help me get to the next level and vice versa. But some of these people are really scared of others getting ahead of them instead of thinking let me help them get ahead so they can help me back. Too bad they think that way because they just missed out on being my friend and being helped by me. May 3, 2003 - Had to work again. Not very exciting. Better today though that the office manager isn't there. She's not the friendliest of sorts. One thing I don't like about this company is that I feel like I'm working for Saddam. They have cameras that watch your every move. If you take a break, it can't be at your own desk. You have to step away from the cameras. If you're at your desk, you better be working. The phones are also monitored. I've heard on my phone at least 2x as if someone was listening on the other line. Also our computers are monitored. They watch to see how many inputs and updates you've put in during the day, and they check to see if you went and checked personal sites. Besides that, I work my butt off answering phones, calling clients, attending to walk-in customers, updating files on the computer... all for $10 a day. But hey! It's money and they are actor-friendly. That's important for those times I might have an audition. |
