bergman is a true artist, expressing both spiritual and psychological conflicts through his films. born to a strict lutheran preacher, his father, erik bergman, disciplined ingmar and his siblings harshly and required that they attend all his relgious sermons and events. bergman's childhood would make a lasting impression and inspiration to his works. his love for films started at the age of five and continued through college at the university of stockholm. in 1943, bergman wrote his first screenplay for "hets" and made his director debut in "kris" in 1945. his international appeal heightened in 1957 with the release of "wild strawberries" and "the seventh seal." in 1976, bergman would exile from sweden because of accusations of tax evasion on incomes of certain films. those charges would soon be proven false and he would return, but his next several films would use and express themes of anger. he would announce his retirement from films in 1984. regardless of his retirement, he still writes and has directed several tv movies. |
