My name is Randy and the purpose of this page is to share information with others bout my sleep disorder. This probably will not mean much to you unless you have a sleep disorder too.


I have had two sleep tests, one in July 1999 and May 2006. My sleep disorder seems to have evolved from sleep apnea to insomnia that varies from mild to severe. I can take a sleep aid like Tylenol PM (half dose) and it does nothing for me. Two hours later, still not asleep and take another half dose and can finally sleep but am so tired the next day I can barely function. I try to stay away from medications like that and save it only for desperate moments. I do know that at one time I took it for two weeks straight and when I stopped I had a terrible night's rest.

Normally I use Melatonin and that worked for awhile, now it does sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. Occasionally I will take a half dose of tylenol pm and melatonin, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. I have tried tryptophan and that seems to work for now. Unfortunately i ran out and need to get some more.

Last night is a perfect example, one of my worst nights in awhile. I took 35 mg of melatonin and slept til 12:30 am. Woke up took another 30 mg with no effect. I got desperate and at 3:30 am took a half dose of tylenol pm, finally fell asleep til 8 am but i am so tired today I can barely function. It was the same deal on aug 31, took a half dose of tylenol pm at 9:30pm, still awake at 1230, had to be up at 4:45 am and was so tired all day long
