Our History

Our association started with a small gathering of friends during a potluck picnic celebrating Easter on April 11, 1971 at Rocky Point Recreation Area of Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island. On that day, our pioneers agreed to "promote a closer social relationship among our members, promote the Filipino heritage, and enhance the educational growth of our children, our moral and social attributes, and those of our posterity". Of those present, nine families still reside in Oak Harbor. They are Scott & Mila Burns, Gus & Leonor Cruz, Honorio & Gregoria Fortin, Lucy Fortin, Bert & Betty Letrondo, Santy & Lenny Mamales, Leonard & Aurora Martin, Bert & Femia Ramos, and Jim & Virgie Sierman. Bert Letrondo served as our first President.

Our membership has grown over the years. We come from various walks of life. Majority of our members are active duty or retired U.S. military service members. Some are government city and state officials. As of this writing, our roster lists more than 150 active family members. These are those who keep active membership by paying annual dues. Still there are those who simply consider themselves as part of our group. Indeed, we keep our membership open to all who wants to join in good faith.
