What's with the name?: The name 'Monarch' is from Mandy's insane obsession with butterflies. She named her future band/ persona after this amazing creature for the pure fact that she feels a profound and cosmic connection to them. Another reason is that Mariah Carey's personal record label was named 'MonarC', and Mandy wanted to pay tribute to Mariah, as well as the butterfly. The design of the flaming butterflies came from the idea that people see them as a medaphore for fragility, innocence, and beauty, but they can also be strong, resiliant, and a symbol of empowerment. Where do the lyrics come from?: Mandy started writing lyrics in the fall of 2002. She started off with R&B lyrics, which you can read at her Arnooba.Net website. She recently moved into the realm of rock lyrics, something she feels she's more suited to because it allows for more creativity and freedom. To date, she's been inspired by the following bands: Creed, Linkin Park, Evanescence, and Default. Her non-rock influences have come from many sources, including: Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Alicia Keys, Brandy, Shakira, Deborah Cox, Tamia, Boyz II Men... and so many others. What is the style of the music going to be?: Mandy wants to convey a rock sound, but with a feminine, subtle, and vulnerable side. Something not seen every day in rock music. Most of the 'rock chicks' seem angry and aggressive, and they seem like they are trying to live up to the expectations of the 'guy lead singer'. Mandy wants so much for 'Monarch' to be an original creation. She wants her personality and experiences to come through the music/lyrics to show depth, emotion, and a new point of view. Her lyrics are very personal to her, and it means a lot to her that they are treated with respect. She vows never to sell her lyrics. (With the exceptions of her respected artists: Mariah Carey, Creed, etc., because they are her absolute inspirations, and it would be an honour for them to make her lyrics their own. In that case she'd probably just give them the rights, and not sell them.) She feels that selling her lyrics would cheapen the hard work, the satisfaction, and the very emtionally draining journey that every lyric has come from. "Money is not worth your integrity." What will become of 'Monarch'?: In the future, Mandy wants to either collaberate with someone (who is on the same level as her) to write the music for these lyrics. Or if that fails, she will just start singing the lyrics to whatever comes out of her mouth and pray that someone will listen. |
