Larry  Holmes 18 DVD Career Set

Larry Holmes is recognized as being the Heavyweight with the longest title reign only bested by Joe Louis. He began his career with 48 professional wins falling one fight short of Rocky Marciano's 49 consecutive wins.

Born in Georgia, Holmes trained in Easton, PA where he got his nick name "the Easton Assassin". He was a former sparring partner for Muhammad Ali. He first gained credibility when he upset Earnie Shavers which led to his fight with Norton, who he defeated and won the WBC Heavyweight Title.

In October of 1980, Ali came out of retirement to face Holmes. He was a shadow of his old self and trainer Angelo Dundee stopped the fight in the 10th round.

Holmes then fought George Cooney in one of the most anticipated and  biggest Heavyweight fights in boxing history. Cooney was the dubbed the "white hope" with a devastating left hook but fell short when the fight was stopped by his trainer in the 13th round when he entered the ring making Holmes victorious.

Holmes shortly after relinquished his title for the newly formed IBF title. He fought Michael Spinks and lost a controversial decision, one that could've tied Marciano's record of 49 wins. Holmes went on to fight Spinks again and lost a Split Decision and then retired. He was lured out of retirement to fight Mike Tyson for 4 million and much like Ali, he was bested by the younger stronger fighter when he was knocked out in the 4th round.
