Man robbed in Bicentennial Village

            A man was assaulted and robbed about 6:10 p.m. Sunday evening, Jan. 27 in the area of Independence Boulevard and Lamplighter Lane in Bicentennial Village.

            According to police reports, the 47-year old male victim was assaulted from behind by two men. The thieves beat the man, causing injuries to his face and head, and then took a small amount of money. They fled the scene in an unknown direction. Police do not have a description of the two thieves.

Crack cocaine, PCP recovered in Dover home

            Using a search warrant, officers with the Dover Police Department Drug, Vice and Organized Crime Unit searched a home in the 400 block of Sussex Avenue Friday evening, Jan. 25.

            Capt. Ray Taraila, spokesman for the police department, said during the search, the police found 4.9 grams of crack cocaine and 50.3 grams of PCP.

            Officers arrested Elgin Carrington, 23, of Dover, and charged him with trafficking in PCP, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

            He was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in default of $1,300 secured bond.

Safe Streets officers recover crack cocaine

            Officers with the Dover Safe Streets program arrested a man Friday evening, Jan. 25 in the 1200 block of Walker Road.

            According to Dover Police Department spokesman Capt. Ray Taraila, after the officers contacted him, the man dropped a ball of aluminum foil onto the ground. When recovered, the foil was found to contain three rocks of crack cocaine, wrapped in individual plastic bags.

            Officer arrested Nakia Burton, 27, of the 300 block of Daniel Road in Smyrna. Burton was charged with possession with the intent to deliver crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

            He was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in default of $3,500 secured bond.

Salon burglarized

            Dover police officers are investigating a weekend burglary at the Vincent et Julian Hair Fashions Salon at 743 S. Governors Avenue. The incident happened between 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26 and 10:30 a.m. the following morning.

            Police reports indicate someone broke a window in the rear of the building and once inside, caused damage to the premises and also took a small amount of cash. Police have no suspects at this time.

House of Pride burglarized, suspects caught

            Two buildings belonging to the House of Pride were burglarized over the weekend.

            Dover police spokesman Capt. Ray Taraila said a single burglar entered the first building at about 12:15 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26. The burglar broke a storm window, entered the building, and stole a VCR.

            Taraila said two suspects entered the second building about 15 minutes later. The burglars climbed into the building through a basement window, and once inside stole a small amount of cash from a file cabinet.

            Officers arrested Edward Mattingly, 27, of Seaford and Ronald Wilkins, 50, who claimed to be homeless. Mattingly was charged in connection with both burglaries while Wilkins was charged only on the second burglary.

            Mattingly was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, one count of conspiracy and one count of criminal mischief. He was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in default of $6,300 secured bond.

            Wilkins was charged with one count of burglary, one count of theft, and one count of conspiracy. He was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in default of $4,700 secured bond.

Burglars hit store, school

            Dover Police are looking for clues in two burglaries that occurred over last weekend.

            In the first incident, someone broke into the offices of Bay Developers at 680 Forrest Avenue sometime between 1 p.m., Jan. 19 and 8 a.m., Jan 20. The burglars forced open the rear door to the building and stole a jar of quarters, a stereo, and several blank checks.

            In the second burglary, someone broke into the Holy Cross Elementary School sometime between 10 p.m., Jan. 18 and the morning of Jan. 22. The burglar entered the school library and stole a small amount of money from a cash box. There was also damage to some ceiling tiles.

Weapons, stereo stolen from Hazlettville home

            Detectives with the Delaware State Police are investigating a home burglary in the Hazlettville area. The crime happened between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22.

            Someone broke into the home in the 200 block of Pine Tree Road and stole six shotguns, three rifles and a pistol, as well as a crossbow and a stereo system.

            The value of the stolen items is about $8,000

Camden man arrested for unlawful sexual contact

            A Camden storeowner was arrested Jan 23 after being accused of improperly touching some juvenile customers.

            According to Harrington Police Chief John E. Horsman, the juvenile, a 17 year-old girl, said the man had sold her some cigarettes, but then refused to give her the change until she revealed parts of her body to him. After the investigation started, three other women, two juveniles and one adult, came forward with the same complaint.

            Officers arrested Sarfraz Choudhri, 27, of Camden. He was charged was charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful sexual contact, one count of third-degree unlawful sexual contact, three counts of coercion, one count of sexual harassment, two counts of offensive touching and four counts of selling tobacco to a minor. He was released on $6,2500 unsecured bond pending an appearance in the Court of Common Pleas.

            Police Lt. Keith Helsel said Choudhri was one of the owners of the Gulf Mart at the intersection of Route 13 and Route 14 in Harrington.

Dover man robbed at gunpoint

            Dover Police reported a man was robbed Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Shadow Place in Dover.

            According to reports, the man said he was approached by the suspect at about 4:19 a.m. that morning. The suspect threatened the man with a gun and removed three gold chains from around his neck. He then fired a shot into the air and fled the scene.

            The suspect is described as a Hispanic man who spoke very little English.

Drug arrest on New Street

            Dover Safe Streets officers arrested an 18-year old local man Wednesday, Jan. 23 after he was seen engaging in drug activity on S. New Street.

            According to Capt. Ray Taraila, spokesman for the Dover Police Department, officers arrested Trevor Moncrief, of the 900 block of Forrest Avenue. Officers found 0.1 grams on crack cocaine and also discovered he was out of prison on probation.

            Moncrief was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession within 1,000 feet of a school, possession within 300 feet of a church, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

            He was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in default of $5,000 secured bond.

Arrest made in Greentree purse snatching

            A Dover man has been arrested in connection with a Friday, Jan. 11 purse snatching incident outside the SuperFresh in the Greentree Shopping Center in Dover.

            In that incident, a 76-year old woman reported she had been attacked from behind as she was getting into her car. The woman fought the attacker as he dragged her 10 – 15 feet across the parking lot, ultimately fleeing the scene when the strap on the purse broke.

            Police got a tip on the man’s identity when a witness to the crime was able to write down the getaway car’s license plate number.

            Police spokesman Capt. Ray Taraila said officers traced the license number and arrested Paul X. Fedd, 39, of the 200 block of McKee Road in Dover. A search of Fedd’s home turned up a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and several items that had been taken in a series of vehicle thefts in and around Dover. Fedd was arrested Jan. 24.

            Taraila also said Fedd was a suspect in a Dec. 31 robbery of the Capitol Dry Cleaners at 1101 Walker Road in Dover. In that incident, a man robbed the store after taking both the money in the cash register and his clothes, which he had previously brought in for cleaning. Taraila said the man later called the cleaners to complain about his clothes being missing and was arrested when he returned to the cleaners to make a claim.

            Fedd was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, three counts of theft, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count of possession of a destructive weapon and one count of forgery.

            Fedd was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in lieu of $32,500 secured bond.

Acme/Metro purse snatching suspect arrested

            Dover police have announced the arrest of a man in connection with two purse snatchings at local stores.

            According to police spokesman Capt. Ray Taraila, the purse snatchings occurred at the Metro supermarket on Jan. 18 and the Acme supermarket on Jan 19. In both instances the victims were attacked from behind.

            Taraila said Omar Donaldson, 31, of the Whatcoat Shelter, was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 23. He was charged with one count of second-degree robbery and one count of first-degree robbery. Donaldson was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in lieu of $3,000 secured bond.

Double murder and suicide in Marydel, Md.

            Maryland State Police are investigating an apparent double murder and a suicide that took place Sunday, Jan. 27 in the 18,000 block of Lepore Road in Marydel, Md.

            According to police spokesman Sgt. Thornnie Rouse, Ernesto Bamaca, 37, fatally shot his wife, Aeriela R. Aguilar, 22, and his mother-in-law, Sylvia Aguilar Morales, 41, at about 9 a.m. that morning.

            Witnesses said Bamaca had gone to the house and taken two young girls, about 5 to 8 years old, out to a pickup truck parked nearby. He then went back into the house with a 9 mm pistol, and shot both women before turning the gun on himself. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

            Bamaca had apparently moved out of the home in Dec. 2001 because of domestic problems, after which a protective order had been filed against him. There were no reported calls because of the protective order placed with Maryland police.

            Bamaca had also been served with a criminal summons in Caroline County, Md. for an alleged assault, and had been arrested Jan. 13 by the Delaware State Police on illegal weapons charges. When arrested, police also found a stolen wallet in Bamaca’s car.

            Police did not identify the two children Bamaca had taken out of the residence before the shooting.

            The investigation into the shootings is continuing.
