The RMH 6??Y cars |

As already mentioned in the "missing cars" page the story goes that there was a run of Fiesta Fly convertibles built and registered on this particular run of registration numbers. I originally heard this from Sean Keeling, a previous owner of 610 So I decided to investigate with the help of the RAC websites vehicle check facility and the DVLA website road tax check section. The RAC site gives basic information on a vehicle, but not current owner details for obvious reasons. The DVLA site details when the car was last taxed or Sorned. I checked the reg numbers from RMH 600Y to RMH 699Y. Anything after 50 didn't register as a Ford and while the DVLA site gave records for 40 of the first 50, the RAC site only returned 10. This doesn't necessarily mean the car no longer exists because even my Mk2 convertible doesn't register with the RAC, and it's supposed to be linked with DVLA information!!

this immediately throws up discrepancies....we know 610, 612, and 633 are definately convertibles but 612 and 633 are listed as hatchbacks. I can only assume 624 and 642 are correctly listed as convertibles. If convertibles are still listed as hatchbacks how many others of the above list are really convertibles??
The reason many are still listed as hatchbacks is because the Fly conversion was always done on a pre-registered car, obviously a hatchback. This was to avoid Single vehicle approval regulations regarding "one offs". By using cars already registered, albeit brand new in many cases, the hatchbacks could be converted as an aftermarket item. The designation was not altered to convertible with the DVLA once the conversion had been done.
The DVLA site results work if you know the registration and vehicle make. The following all listed as 1117cc Fords, maybe some were Mk3 Escorts.
605 607 to 613 615 to 625 627 to 629 631 633 642 to 646.
