This XR2 Fly was listed on Ebay on September 6th 2005. I checked the registration on the RAC website and it is indeed registered as a convertible, unlike a lot of Fly's which remain registered at the DVLA as hatchbacks. The advert claimed a devoted lady owner for the last 8 + years. maintained as original. A new hood has been made to the original pattern. Oddly it mentions a locking boot, which means either the boot lid has been modified to open or it refers to a locking boot floor cover that the Ghia models tended to have. The Ebay auction finished on September 13th 2005 with a winning bid of 1500. It is MOT'd until July 2006. |

On October 11th I received an email from Mr. Chris Southwell who after finding this site accidentally realised his old car FCM 444Y was on here. Chris bought the car in Cardiff in November 1987 and took it home to Pembrokeshire. During his tenure the wheels were refurbished, the hood was altered for a better fit and some new steel window tops were obtained from F.English themselves. It was sold in May 1989 to a lady living in Wales. Sometime between 1995/97 Chris saw it for sale in Auto Trader in Weston-super-Mare and nearly decided to buy it back. Chris originally got interested in the Fly after speaking to a lady in Newark-on-Trent who'd apparently won a black XR2 Fly in a competition run by a major food firm (Heinz, he suggests?) who gave away 6. The doors feature extra Fly logos because a rake hit the passenger door.Touch up paint didn't cover it so Chris traced the boot logo and made the door logos from black insulation tape, they're still there!! Thanks to Chris for the new pics and info |
