For a few weekends in September, the Sommersville Dam on the Upper Gauley River in wild, wonderful West Virginia is opened to release up to 10,000 cfs of rushing water.  There was a flow of 2,800 cfs on Saturday, 13 September, 2003, when the Lambie Pod dared 30 rapids, including four Class V's.  Of course, we didn't bring a camera into the boat, but here are some related images...
