In 100-150 Words only, extend one idea from Fierce Game of Foolish Geniuses.
To win you must abide by these rules:
Your extension must not contradict the original idea in part or in whole.
You must quote the idea you are extending upon, verbatim, from the book before beginning your extension. This quote is to be limited to 5 sentences and may not be chosen from the free-previews or quotes from the book available online. That is to ensure, you have read at least the majority of the book, even though it is impossible to determine if the book has been read in full. The page number(s) from which the quote is taken must also be clearly displayed with the quote.
Entries submitted without a name, mailing-address, phone no., and a valid return e-mail will not be considered. If a phone no. or an e-mail is unavailable (ENTRIES WITHOUT BOTH CANNOT BE EXCEPTED, that is at least one of the two must be available), please state *VOID* for that part of the information.
All entries should be e-mailed to [email protected] and must include the words "FGFG schol." in the subject line. Unidentified e-mail is not opened and reported as Spam. The entry should be written out in Notepad and attached to the e-mail. That is to avoid any fancy additions and prevent any viruses etc. sent as attachments.
Since this is an extremely short essay, there seems to be no need for deadlines. Thus, there is no deadline. Each winning extension shall be posted on this website, with the name (or nickname - provide one if you do not wish your name to be displayed) of the person submitting it. Winners will be eligible for a prize of $50-$200 depending upon the quality of the work. This prize is subject to grow as more funds become available and the competition gets tougher.
This scholarship has a round-robin process, and losing entries will automatically be admitted to the next contest. Therefore, if you had a really good entry that did not win the first time through, it will still have many more chances in the future. However, if the same person submits a second entry, his or her first entry will be removed from the contest. If a third is submitted, the first two shall be removed.
No two entries may come from the same mailing address. A second entry from the same mailing address and different person will not be admitted, and if its from the same person it will replace the first entry. The same goes for phone nos. and e-mail addresses. Winners will get a confirmation call and/or e-mail to which they must reply, and the final check will be sent through snail mail.
Characteristics of Winning Entries: Jam packed with strong expression. Do not waste the few words. Show a clear understanding of the book as a whole. Extend an idea developed in the book and not just write a new idea. Write gracefully and coherently, have style, and follow correct grammar.
