Duran Duran fanfics and other writings

What is this? Duran Duran inspired wackiness - or Duran Duran inspired art. Take your pick. Like they say...

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I started this site in late August 2000 with one main goal in mind - to give myself a place where I could do my Duran Duran writing in peace. Hopefully during this endeavor people like you will read my stuff, like what you read, and be inspired to do something with that Duran Duran creativity that you know is lurking around deep inside.

I like writing - a lot! - and enjoy writing my opinions on music, science, practically anything - because I seem to have opinions on everything. So while I enjoy writing fictionalized accounts of the objects of my affection (such as Duran Duran and 'N Sync), I also like to voice my personal opinions. Someday soon this will be a collection of Duran Duran related writings, including fanfic, essays, and more. This is my umpteenth site on Yahoo! Geocities but the first on Duran Duran - so please be patient. This site should include various Duran Duran writings, including a written submission for See Me, Repeat Me, a fan tribute compilation of DD covers. I don't play any instruments except piano and I don't think I'm any virtuoso so I'm going to submit something for the liner notes. Hopefully it'll make it on there - we'll see.

So far, I have one Duran Duran essay (I'm working on essay number two), and a still unfinished fanfic. I'm a very busy senior biology major so I don't expect an update anytime soon - but have no fear, my brain gears have been on full rotation, and I will post more of my thoughts soon. Feel free to leave me a note in my guestbook or e-mail me (information about this available at the first page of the Fields of Eden.

I've always liked Duran Duran's music but I never knew much about the band. I accidentally saw part of the "Behind the Music" featuring them, when I was flipping through the channels. I was at home, ill, and with nothing to do, I was idly trying to find something to watch, and so I watched that...and got hooked. Make no mistake, I am not a full-fledged Duranie. In fact, I was born the year after Nick Rhodes and John Taylor christened their band after Duran Duran, a villain in the '60s sci-fi cult classic, "Barbarella." So what makes a 20-something college student like a bunch of old fogeys like Duran Duran?

Duran Duran was and still is a joint effort of incredibly talented musicians and lyricists. Though its lineup has changed many times since they started out as a fledgling group of guys from Birmingham, England, they have maintained an incredibly large fan base and continue to churn out music destined to be hits. The original "classic" lineup of Duran Duran was Simon LeBon (lead singer), Andy Taylor (lead guitar), Nick Rhodes (synthesizer and keyboards), John Taylor (bass guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums). (By the way, none of the Taylors are related but this initially caused problems because they didn't want three guys in the band with the same last name!) Some of their most recognizable hits include "Rio," "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Is There Something I Should Know," "Notorious," and "Ordinary World."

My favorites? Duran Duran song is from 1993, called "Come Undone" followed closely behind by "Rio." My favorite video of theirs is "A View to a Kill." And yes, I do have a favorite member (who is now a former member since he quit the band in 1997) - John Taylor. He's just so witty and charming and devastatingly handsome that how can I *not* fall for him? He's twice my age yet he looks as young as a spring chicken. I have this theory that men do not age - there are so many good-looking, older male celebrities far outnumbering the decent looking female ones! For more evidence, visit littlewillow's "G" List.

I'm still working on it but I'm going to write at least one John Taylor fanfic and maybe more about Duran Duran in general. I don't know. I've had pretty good response from the Backstreet Boys' and 'N Sync fanfics I've written in the past so this is just (to borrow from Pat Benatar) "another notch on my lipstick case." I'm glad people like reading what I write and I appreciate any comments and/or constructive criticism that you all can give me.

That's it for now! If you want, e-mail me at [email protected] if you want to talk about anything Duran Duran related. I am interested in finding a e-mail pen pal more my age than most of the people on the web who are DD fans - so if you want to strike up a conversation, be my guest.
