When I first listened to the "Dark Circles" album by the Devils, I was really enthralled with Stephen Duffy's voice. So being the scientific mind I am, I tried to dig up information about his music after he left lead singer duties with an early version of Duran Duran. After having discovered Stephen Duffy's solo work and work with his band The Lilac Time, I came to the conclusion that Mr. Duffy is a lyrical genius. I don't claim to be a talented poet, but I can say without a doubt that Stephen Duffy has a gift when it comes to the written word. A song that might seem so simple on the surface may actually hide deeper meanings, evoke amazing feelings, and certainly bring one's emotions to the surface.
What I had planned for this page was to showcase Stephen's songs by taking some of my favorites and analysing them. I hope to work this in with the Duffy lyrics groups I have started, Stars O' Duffy, as we had a very long discussion at duffylovers group about the song, "A Man Without a Star," a B-side with the 1993 single "Natalie."
As time permits, I will continually post lyrics I am personally moved by, as a testament to Stephen's genius.

Aug 15th - being the moron that I am, in the process of reorganizing some things on my site, I deleted the whole songs directory (oops!) - thank god for backup! I forget which songs were added last, but I guess now I have my work cut out for me, don't I? I have a headache...ugh...April 22nd - reorganized lyrics listing, added some more songs.
April 7th news flash - yesterday I got a very nice surprise in the mail - a letter from Stephen! he thanked me for my work on this site and I'm still grinning from that. he also sent along what he had in his song catalogue for 8 of the songs above and I have replaced my transcriptions with the real deal from Stephen - the songs with changes are indicated with asterisks (*). you can still access my original transcriptions by clicking on the link on the updated "official Stephen" versions.
Stephen, you really made my day! thanks for writing. *grin*
