Kai said nothing to that, just pushed a lock of Clover's hair away from her face. He picked Clover up and continued on. It was early evening now, and Clover was detearerating fast. All of her vines had fallen off, it was hard to see her skin through the large bloches of white. Her breathing had become labored and had not spoken for several hours.

"Kai." rasped Clover," stop........here." Kai stopped on a small hill overlooking a large sweaping field. The sun was setting, coloring the world in shades of yellow, orange, red and purple. Kai sat there, cradling Clover in his arms. She sat watching the sunset, her breathing worsened. "Kai.....remember...you....promise." rasped Clover.

"I will." said Kai. With her last bit of strength she turned her head to him.

"Kai...you.......really are.....beautiful." she said. She turned her eyes back to the setting sun.

As the sun finally disapeared, Clover's suffering ended.

The riders, along with Stan and Xev, found kai the next day, sitting in the small clearing, watching over the seed. In the short amount of time it had already grown from a fist sized lump to about the size of a vollyball. Xev jumped down from the Grayhound she had been riding. "Kai, What happened? Where is Clover?" asked Xev. Kai looked up.

"She is dead." he said flatly. They fell silent, Xev started to cry softly, Stan put his hand on her shoulder. Grove of Apple Blossoms stepped forward and knelt beside the seed.

"Clover's?" she asked.

"Yes." said Kai," I....promised to watch over it for her."

And so Kai did, for many weeks. The seed grew untill it was almost three feet high and wide. The Lexx had long sence finished eating and returned to orbit. Xev and Stan stayed in Cattail Town comeing out each day to check on Kai and the seed. Patches of Aloe came several times to check on the seeds growth. He reported that it was doing fine for being layed so early.

A month had passed. Kai noticed three seams running down the seed. It was almost ready. A rider was left at the clearing, Aloe wanted to be notified as soon as the seed began to hatch.

Kai heard a cracking sound. He looked over at the seed, the seams had parted. He woke the rider, who had been sleeping nearby, and sent him to get Aloe. By the time Aloe arived, the seams had opened compleatly and the three parts of the pod slowly fell away. With a final crack the three parts fell to the ground reveling what sat inside.

The sun light glinted off her damp, light green shin and her long purple hair. She sat with her arms wrapped around her legs, resting her head on her knees. While a newborn, she looked to be in her mid-teens. She raised her head, blinking at the bright sunlight. Aloe gasped and if Kai could he would have to. The girl looked like Clover. She was almost an exact copy of her mother, save her purple hair and eyes.

She stood up slowly, wrapped her arms around her chest and shivered in the cool breeze. Her small vines trembled, trying to move. Aloe stepped forward, drapping a blanket over the girls shoulders.

"Welcome, little one." he said softly. He turned to Kai. "Normally we take our names from where we are born, but," Aloe jestured to the small purple flowers that dotted the clearing, "these flowers are so rare, they have no name." Kai looked at the small flowers, "On my homeworld we had flowers like these." he paused," They were called...... Heather."

"Then that is your name." Aloe turned back to the girl," You are Fields of Heather."

Fields of Heather was taken in by Apple Blossom, she being Clover's sister and Heather's aunt. Stan, Xev, and Kai stood outside Blossom's house, saying their goodbyes as Aloe came up the street. He was being pulled by the very happy and now healthy puppy Clover had left in his care. The puppy jumped up, knocking Stan down and proseded to lick his face. Xev giggled as Stan called out for help from under the big tounge. Aloe handed the lash to Heather.

"Heather, this pup belonged to your mother," Aloe cleared his throat," as her daughter, she now belongs to you."

"ME???" Heather gasped. She pulled the puppy off Stan and hugged the big head to her. The puppy turned and started licking Heather.

"What will you name her?" asked Xev as Stan picked himself up off the ground mutering something about mutts. Heather looked at Kai, the man who had watched over her, who had been there in her mother's last moments, a man she couldn't thank enough. She looked into those deep green eyes. She looked back at the smiling face of her puppy.

"Your name is......Jade." she said. The puppy woofed and knocked her down, licking her face. Heather laughed at Jade, and so did Xev Blossom and Aloe. Stan couldn't help but smile at the pair. And Kai, well, Kai was Kai. And for once everything seemed right in the world.
