| The woman chuckled, "Oh those two, I left them in the forest. I have no need for them, right now." She moved closer. Reaching out, she lite a nearby torch and pushed some hair out of her face. As the torch spread it's light over the room, she turned to Heather. Heather gasped in horror, "It's not posable?" she thought. She hung there staring at her own face. The same features, cheeks, nose, chin, same soft lines and plains. Only the eyes and hair were different, long stringy green hair instead of her think dark purple locks. The eyes, not soft violet, like hers, but a sickly pale green, and colder then ice. "Like looking in a mirror isn't it?" chuckled the woman. "I haven't introduced my self have I? My name is Fields of Crabgrass. It's so nice to finally meet you, dear sister." ***** VisionAri sat holding her aching head. She had regained consciousness on the way back to the fortress but the world wouldn't stop spinning. Ging groaning next to her. VA did her best to tell what had happened to the two EveningStars that keep moving around infront of her eyes. Just them some of the men of ORAL showed up. "WHAT the Xev is going on?" shouted Maaxx, "First we get a garbled message about dead plants and come quick, then we see Kali and FrogSplash fighting to chain Jade up, and finally Ghiapet almost shoots me." "I said I was sorry," moaned Ghia, from the door way of the main hall. "Now Max, calm down before you give yourself a heartattack." said ES, leading him over to a chair, "Now sit and we'll try to explain." Maaxx, NecK, Spino, Zebeep, and PerfectBlue all listened as EveningStar told them what had happened. When ES was done, everyone started talking. Except for VA, the world still spinning before her, Ging, still groaning, and Blue, cause he never says much anyway. Ideas were offered up about what was happening, why the forest had died, where Heather was. Everyone was surprised when Blue spoke up. "Where are the animals?" asked PerfectBlue. Everyone stopped talking and looked around. Not one of the animals could be seen and the hall should have been filled with them. Ghia spoke up, "I saw them leaving the fortress earlier, heading into the forest. They said something about a picnic." "Which way did they go?" asked Dgre. Ghia turned white, "To.... towards the ruins." "Just wonderful," growled EveningStar. ***** "Just wonderful, we're all out of caviar," sighed Misty, "I knew I should have brought more along." "That's OK, Misty, I'm full," purred Schwartz Katz. It was a fine day for a picnic. The sun was shining brightly down on the meadow they had set up in. Misty sat sipping her Asti, purring contentedly. Schwartz Katz sat next to her. Kitchen Possum looked up from her margarita. "My complements to the chef *hic*." she slurred before going back to her margarita. Small Furry Animal was already out from to many drinks, softly snoring next to Possum. Wild Wolf was across the meadow chasing a rabbit. Naughty Kitty was up a nearby tree, trying to play with a very angry bird. Misty looked around, "Where are Plump Mouse and Ding Bat?" ***** FLAP FLAP FLAP SPLAT!!! Ding Bat smacked into the stone wall of the old ruins and fell to the ground. Plump Mouse ran over to help her up. "Ouch," said Ding Bat rubbing her head. "Mouse, I don't like this place." "I know, but something weird is going on and I think this place has something to do with it," said Plump Mouse. She walked inside the old ruins, Ding Bat hobbling behind her. "Look!!" Plump Mouse pointed, "Someone's been dragged threw here not long ago, these tracks are fresh." Mouse sniffed at the tracks, her ears purking up. "What is it?" asked Ding Bat, nervously hopping from one foot to the other. "It smells like Fields of Heather, she's been here recently," said Plump Mouse. "Why would Heather come here?" asked Ding Bat. "I don't know. Let's find out," said Plump Mouse heading deeper into the ruins. Ding Bat followed behind mumbling, "I have a bad feeling about this." ***** "Sister?" said Heather, "I don't have a sister?" Fields of Crabgrass giggled, "Oh but you do. Why do you think we look so much alike?" She leaned closer to Heather. She smelt faintly of decay. "You see, I was never ment to survive." Crabgrass said bitterly,"As you can see, my genes aren't as good as yours."She lifted her vines up, many were horribly twisted, useless. Other's were lumpy, some had split half way down into two. |
