Chaos rained as everyone that could, grabed their things and ran. The compound was a mess, people were deserting left and right. But deep inside one building, behind thick doors, there was near silence. The tick of a wall clock, the soft bubbling of a small becker over a burner and the rustle of papers being stuffed into a breifcase were all that could be heard.

With a final look around, he made sure that he hadn't forgoten anything. All of his records, all of his research, condenced into one breifcase. For the hundreth time, he cursed Nadless for the spineless fool he was. All their work was being flushed down the toilet. Nadless might have tucked his tail and run, abandoning his work, but *he* wouldn't.

Picking up a small tranqilizer gun, he walked to the back of his lab, to a thick locked door. Opening it, a cruel smile apeared on his face as he beheld his crown jewel, his masterpiece of altered genetics. "Come." It looked up from the cot it was sitting on. Getting up, it glanced breifly at the gun pointed at it, before walking out of the cell, the clinking of the shakles binding it the only sound.

After grabing his breifcase, he motioned towards the main door with the gun, "We're going."

"no."

It was said so softly, he almost didn't hear it. "WHAT?" He snapped, "What did you say?"

It kept it's head down, strands of hair hideing it's eyes, "I'm not going." With slow, graceful movements, it walked towards him, head still down.

He ground his teeth together, "This is no time to be willful, we are leaveing NOW." It stopped just a foot away, the barrel of the gun pressed to it's stomache. His hand shoke slightly, this wasn't suposed to happen, this creature had been diseplined repeatably. Why was it acting up again?

It lifted it's head, the hair falling back to reveil a twisted half smile and glowing acid yellow eyes. "Oh, but it's the perfect time." In a flash the gun fell to the ground, as he clutched at his throat. Bright red blood sperted between his fingers as he stagered back. He hit the wall, slideing down to the ground. Blood coated his hands, sprayed into the air and ran down his chest.

With a flick of it's wrist, the mangled handcuffs dropped to the floor. Chuckleing softly, it stood over him before crouching down. With a flash of long claws, it sliced open his shirt. Useing one claw, it traced a line down his chest, neatly sliceing into his skin, "I wonder..... is your heart really has black as they say?"

Lucky for him, he was at death's door and never felt as his skin was peeled back and his ribs were split open. Holding his warm heart in it's hands, it smiled, "Quess that answers my question."

In the confusion, no one noticed a figure in a dark coat slip away into the night, nor did they notice the dead body deep within the compound, until it had nearly rotted away.
The End??
