| "Get some sleep." said Dizzy, not bothering to look back at Opulence. Opulence curled up on the crate and was soon asleep. Dizzy stayed awake, keeping watch. Dizzy filled the next several hours thinking. one thing haunted her. The assassin's had had plenty of chances to kill them. They had been tailed for almost a week now. Dizzy could think of only one reason for this, they hadn't been sent here to kill them. They were here to cature them. Undoutably, they were to be taken to the Cluster and publicly exicuted. For the first time in her life, Dizzy was afraid. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Dizzy woke suddenly. Realizing she had drifted off, she cursed silently. She froze. The crykeths had stopped chirping. Their annoying noises had been a constant for the past several months. But now they were quiet. Dizzy's heart pounded in her ears. She tryed calming it, taking deep breaths. That's when she smelt them, They were at the end of the alley that lead to the hovel she and Opulence were in. She slid off the crate she had been sitting on, tapping Opulence on the shoulder. Opulence woke, Dizzy silencing her with a gesture. They moved quickly to the side of the shack. Hidden behind some hanging moss was a hole. Dizzy squezed threw into a small path between the shack and the building next to it. They crept towards the alley. Dizzy peeked around the edge. She could hear the assassins moveing around inside the shack they had just vacated. The alley was a dead end, not a good place to stop, but they had been desperate. To get out, they would have to pass the doorway, pass the assassins inside. Dizzy held up her hand, fingers spread wide. Opulence tensed behind her. Dizzy closed her fist. Together they took off down the alley, their only chance was to out run them. It took only a few seconds before Dizzy heard the sounds of feet pounding the ground behind them. Then came the noise. It was like the cry of a falcoa, a bird of her homeworld. It sliced threw the air, chilling her blood. That cry had frightened children of her world for millennia, sent them running to the arms of their mothers, fearing that they were the one's those monsters were hunting today. Opulence screamed as she fell. Dizzy ran on, fear driving her, leaving her only friend behind. She rounded the corner and slammed into the dark figure waiting there. The same scretch pierced the air. Dizzy gasped as something cold, sharp glamped around her neck, choaking her. She looked into his face, the assassin who had caught her. If a man could be called beautiful than surely he was. Cold hazel eyes stared out at her from behind a forelock of jet black hair. A tattoo sliced across his cheek. If Dizzy had been able to speak, she would have been speechless. The thing around her neck tightened, the world was slowly fadeing away. That's when she heard it, a voise that sent shivers of pleasure and fear threw her body. "Dizzy Cow, of the planet BlackSun, you quilty of the crimes of murder and treason agenst the Divine Order." he said softly, forcefully, with more cold then the depths of space. Then all was darkness. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * His Divine Shadow. He stood, looking at a screen. It showed the Stadiam, packed full of people, from across the universe. It's lazer lights quiding last minute transports in, the show was about to begin. Below the crowds, a man was tossing brains into a pit, to the cheers of the people. Above the pit, on a platform, stood two prisoners, bound and gaged. Suddenly the giant screens lite up. The Holo-Judge apeared. In a booming voise he proclaimed. "Opulence Licoriceplant of Glamoria, Dizzy Cow of BlackSun, you have been found guilty of the murders of 162 people and of teason agenst the Divine Order and the League of 20,000. You are hereby sentenced to death, to be torn apart by cluster lizards. May His mercyful Shadow fall apon you." With that the platform gave way, the two figures fell into the pit. The screen changed to a view within the pit, showing the two being ripped apard by the hungry cluster lizards. His Shadow smiled. The holograms had done well. To the universe, the team of Opulence and Dizzy were dead. He turned, striding from the room. Down to the morturay he walked. He caught himself stopping at one of the drawers. "No," he thought, "Not the Brunnen G, not today." He moved on to a different drawer. This one was special, it was double wide. It opened, hissing slightly. He looked down into it. "Awake Daughter of BlackSun, Daughter of Glamoria." he said. Inside the drawer, Dizzy and Opulence opened their eyes. Together, in a monotone voice, they said for the first of many times.... "Who would you like us to kill?" THE END |
