As he got older, he had a son by the name of Gohan. Later his brother Raditz arrived on Earth to finish what Goku was supposed to start...destroy Earth. In the process Piccolo killed Raditz with a spiral blast of energy but it passed throuhg Raditz and hit Goku as well causing his death.
He traveled Snakeway to train with King Kai where he learned the spirit bomb.
He was wished back just in time to battle Nappa and Vegeta. He effortlessly defeated Nappa and almost died against Vegeta if it wasn't for Krillin and Gohan.
His next big fling was on Namek to help defeat the Ginyu Force. After barely defeating Captain Ginyu, he was rushed to Freeza's abandoned ship to get healed. After that he did battle with the evil underlord himself but made no progress until he became the first saiyan to turn super saiyan and defeat Freeza.
Eventually the planet Namek exploded and Goku narrowly escaped and made it to a new planet where he trained and learned the instant transportation technique and then returned home to Earth.
As soon as he returned, he was greeted by all of his friends and a mysterious child that we now know as Trunks who informed him of the arrival of two androids and a heart condition 3 years in the future.
Three years later the androids did arrive and goku wasn't making any progress on Android 19 because of his heart condition which led to his butt-kickin. He spent the next few weeks in bed taking his antidote and finally got better.
When he awakened, two new androids were looking for him but, Goku never got to see them because he and Gohan went to Kame's Lookout for time and space training. After the training Goku knew that Perfect Cell was stronger than him yet he just wanted to relax until the games refusing another opportunity to go into the room of time and space.
Goku was Cell's first match in the games. The battle raged and Goku seemed to have won after a Chou Kameyameya at point blank range blew off Cell's head and arms. However, Cell simply regenerated them back. Eventually Cell will spontaneously combust sending Goku into the next dimension.
