If Only,
Saga 2,
Chapter 3,
By JessiE

That was a new day. JC and Jennifer were still in their beds, still in great pain 24/7. But after staying in her bed for many days, Jennifer still had not known about JC being right in the ward next to hers. She never even had that kind of thought in her mind. She was only thinking about Josh all of the time.

My biggest mistake in life. Why did I even believe Brian? I was such a fool.

Then, someone knocked on the door. After the sound of the knocking stopped, Lyn came straight in.

"Hey Jennifer. How are you feeling today?"

"Lyn... I'm not fine, I mean, look at me."

Lyn smiled. "I'm sorry I asked you that. I always asks that question to all my patients, including JC next door."

          "JC next door?"

          "Yeah. Why?"

"Which JC are you talking about?"

Lyn looked at her. "You don't know? I mean, didn't Amanda or Brian tell you about it?"

"Tell me about what? I only saw them once after I had an accident, and they didn't say much to me... well, I didn't give them the chance to talk. I drove them away."

"Oh God, and I thought you knew about it the whole time. I thought Amanda and Brian told you about it already."

          "About what?"

"The accident, remember? You were hit by a car, don't you ever wonder who drove that car?"

"Never popped to my mind. Who?"

"JC of 'N Sync. He was driving really fast, and didn't see you crossing the road. His car knocked you down really hard when he was trying to avoid his car from hitting you. The car got out of the road and bumped into a grocery shop. He was badly injured too. And, he's right in the ward beside this one."

Jennifer did not know what she felt.

I must have heard wrongly. JC of 'N Sync? No way.

Then, the door was knocked again. A tall and big guy came in with a cell phone in his right hand.

"Hey Lyn, sorry to come in just like that. But JC asked me to give this cell phone to Jennifer once he knew she was awake." He handed it to Lyn.

"Okay, thanks Mark." She took the mobile phone from him. Once Mark went out of the ward, Lyn turned back to Jennifer.

           "Who was that?" Jennifer asked.

"One of the bodyguards out there, Mark, gave me a cell phone to be given to you, which is of course weird, because you won't be able to hold this. Your hands need to heal first."

Suddenly, the phone rang, and Lyn answered it. It was JC.

           "Hi Lyn!"

           "Is this JC?"

"It's me. Justin's holding the phone for me right now. Oh well, maybe you think this is weird. I just wanna talk to Jennifer. This might be the only possible way right now anyway. So, maybe you can hold this phone for Jennifer just like what Justin's doing right now."

Lyn was kind of amazed. "Sure, wait." She went closer to Jennifer. "Jennifer, JC's on the phone, he wants to talk to you."

           Talk to me?

"Come on, I'll hold this for you." Lyn put the phone at the right position so that Jennifer would be able to listen and talk to JC.

"Lyn, are you done?" Jennifer heard JC talking.

           I can't believe it. It's really him!

           "She's done. I'm here."

"Jennifer? Hi! This is JC. How are you feeling?"

"Not so good, but, okay I guess."

"Yeah, me too. Look, I'm really sorry that I knocked you down with my car the other day. I was driving too fast. My mistake."

"No, it wasn't your fault. I was the one who crossed the road without even looking left or right first. I'm sorry."

"Why are you apologizing? You did nothing wrong. It was my fault."

"Okay, let's just say it's both our fault!"

           "Yeah, maybe!"

Then Jennifer heard Justin mumbling about something.

"Quiet, Justin. Okay, Jennifer, I have to go. Maybe I'll call you later. Keep the phone on!"

           "Okay... talk to you later!"

           "Me too."

Still, Jennifer could hear Justin mumbling.

           "Justin, be quiet—"

           The call ended.

           "Okay Lyn, I'm through. Thanks."

Lyn put the phone on a small table. "I guess that's a good phone call."

           "Yeah, sort of."

"You're doing even better today, I got to record that down. Anyway, I'm going out for a while. I have to take your medicine."

Urgh, I hate medicine. But, whatever! At least I have JC to talk to whenever I can, and also Jesse. I'm looking forward to see him again. He's a really nice guy.

And yet I still miss Josh a lot. Oh God, I hope he'll rest in peace now. I'll keep him in my prayers, always.
